Just followed a lexus saloon with his rear 'plate lit with white LED lamps. It looked great - can we get LED bulbs to fit in the holders in the D3?

Yes, they're the standard W5W type. LED versions obtainable at ultraleds.co.uk  IE - 05 D3 TDV6 HSE - Zambezi Silver

Very simple. For the numberplate lights you just insert a flathead screwdriver into one side of the light housing (the side with the indentation), and gently prise it out. The bulb holder just pulls out, and the bulb then pulls out of it!
One thing with the 501 LEDs though is that you should test them before putting it all back together. This is because LEDs require the right polarisation as current only flows one way through a led, wheras a normal bulb will work either way around. If it doesn't work, then just pull out the bulb and twist it 180 degrees and reinsert and it should then work. IE - 05 D3 TDV6 HSE - Zambezi Silver

Just got and fitted the new 501 type leds today, and they're far better than the old ones. Especially for the rear numberplate illumination!
