I had a fully loaded FFRR out for a few days when my D4 was in the dealer (a couple of years back).
I related it to a mansion house ...... nice to visit, but wouldn't want to live there.

Ive been trying to decide what to do for 6 months now heart wants to try a FFRR but head says D4 due to practicality with 3 young kids and huge dogs the RR just doesn't provide the space for us to comfortably cope. Plus the interior gets trashed very quickly theres nearly 1k of damaged interior in my 2 year old D4 I need to negotiate into a deal I dread to think what this would equate to in a RR interia Ive even looked at the long wheelbase but the rooms all in the rear and nothing added to the boot with no easy modifications in sight to increase the boot space. So probably looking at one more fully spec'd up D4 before the 5 comes along. Its a big gulp though for a car I know will be out of production soon. I do like the FF.MY06 S - Gone but not forgotten

Steve,
what's driving the change (may have missed that point in the thread ). If you just fancy a change then definitely go for it, you can change it again a year on
I've driven L405's a fair bit now and have to say I loved them. A 3.0d is a lot 'perkier' than a D4 or old RRS with same engine. I genuinely thought I had a V8 diesel in the first L405 I drove and had to look under the bonnet to check it wasn't.
Fuel consumption is 10-15% better than D4/RRS as well, the 'Lotus' approach to weight saving definitely pays off
Downside, if you can call it that, is you're never likely to want to load it up for a trip to the tip, it really is that nice inside.
I'm getting a V8 diesel RRS next week. Agree performance is only marginally better than the 3.0d but for me its a mix of (hopefully) V8 burble, mid-range oomph and fact the fuel tank is 15 litres bigger. Feedback on 'real life' fuel consumption shows the V8 to be only marginally worse on anything outside city running (I'll know soon enough).
Not sure if that rationale carries over to FFRR for sound and fuel tank size though.
