You can have a Discovery and a nice open two seater for the price of a FFRR. Well that's how I have always seen it.
You're not helping! LOL
I did have a D4 and a Nissan GTR a few years back but I need to keep my licence! Gtr was manic and not very comfortable but what a car! I think I got it out of my system though Sensible Megane estate sport tourer thingy possibly on its way for the dogs etc. More sensible but definitely more sedate too!
Yep I've got a coupe with a V8 engine when I fancy a bit more acceleration but the GTR is so fast it is silly.2014MY Discovery

Tough choice on FF vs SVR...
What will the car be used for and what role will it fulfil over and above the estate car?
If it's going to be the fun, exciting, car to be proud of whilst the estate does the "work" then it has to be the SVR.
If it is going to have to muck in on practical duties and will get some miles on it I'd go FFRR
The biggest issue for me is that neither really sit above £70k in my head - both "feel" like £70k vehicles to me and not 90-100k.
If I was likely to swap in 6-10months time then I'd grab an RRS SVR now whilst the fuel is low, have some fun.
Might be a different conversation if depreciation curves also have to be considered.MY15 DIY Black Pack (Better than factory and half the price!)

It's the reason a lot of people that could have a RR, stick with a Discovery.
Nice Discovery XXV or HSE LUX with all the boxes ticked takes some beating as a practical luxury SUV/4x4 especially when it's nearest competitor is then 10s of k more

Steve,
what's driving the change (may have missed that point in the thread ). If you just fancy a change then definitely go for it, you can change it again a year on
I've driven L405's a fair bit now and have to say I loved them. A 3.0d is a lot 'perkier' than a D4 or old RRS with same engine. I genuinely thought I had a V8 diesel in the first L405 I drove and had to look under the bonnet to check it wasn't.
Fuel consumption is 10-15% better than D4/RRS as well, the 'Lotus' approach to weight saving definitely pays off
Downside, if you can call it that, is you're never likely to want to load it up for a trip to the tip, it really is that nice inside.
I'm getting a V8 diesel RRS next week. Agree performance is only marginally better than the 3.0d but for me its a mix of (hopefully) V8 burble, mid-range oomph and fact the fuel tank is 15 litres bigger. Feedback on 'real life' fuel consumption shows the V8 to be only marginally worse on anything outside city running (I'll know soon enough).
Not sure if that rationale carries over to FFRR for sound and fuel tank size though.
The 3.0 is much quieter too 15.5MY XS in Corris Grey with Black & Almond leather

Having done the sums etc I can happily say I'm sticking with the D4. Not quite enough discount on the FFRR and the SVR whilst entertaining, not surprisingly had no discount at all and would have been the wrong decision.
