Hi Jonny, check to see what type of cranking battery you have installed right now.
If you already have an AGM, you can fit a new AGM and get the software checked/updated when it suits you.
If it’s a Calcium/Calcium ( Ca/Ca ) battery, you must get your software upgraded BEFORE you replace the Ca/Ca battery with an AGM type, or you could stuff the AGM.2008 TDV8 RR Lux + 2009 D4 2.7

Hi MGCarr, your new battery may be good but in need of some decent charging.
Most cranking batteries, in good condition, will maintain their CCA rating when they are down as low as 40% SoC. Only after the battery’s capacity drops below 40% will the CCA rating start to deminish.
If you can, even if you are driving your D4 during the day, try putting a charger on the battery every night for a week and see if starting improves.
JonnyG, if your D4 is still starting OK, try the same thing.
This sort of problem, in many cases, is simply caused by too many short drives, but it can usually be reversed with some charge/conditioning.
And don’t just charge the battery till the charger goes into FLOAT mode, leave the charger on over night each time. This will both charge battery ( or the amount of battery capacity that can still be charged ) and then condition the battery.
The FLOAT mode period needs to be around 8 to 10 hour, and will in many cases, if the battery is not stuffed, slowly but progressively increase the battery’s capacity.2008 TDV8 RR Lux + 2009 D4 2.7

Thanks Drivesafe for the suggestion, I have already replaced the Yuasa with an Exide battery and have had no problems since but I have a ctek 25 charger and will try recharging the Yuasa a few times to see if it recovers as I have plenty of other things that I could use the battery on.

Hi guys, once again thanks for all the good info, I have had the battery on charge this week although unfortunately it wasn't overnight, my Mrs uses the car all week & she has reported that it's been starting fine each morning (believe me I would have been the first to know if it hadn't lol) I'm going to give it a couple more charges over the weekend & see how we go, I've checked with Land Rover & there are no outstanding software updates relating to battery or charging for our car.
This is the original battery that is currently fitted

H again MGCarr, with the Yuasa, try one charge cycle with the Ctek’s RECONDITION setting and then just use the normal CHARGE/FLOAT mode for a few more overnight charges.
You do not have to do this on every consecutive night, just get a few overnight charges done and then see if the battery is performing better.
These CHARGE/FLOAT cycles not only improves the starting capability and capacity of the battery, if your battery was down on usable capacity, because you have increase the chargeable capacity of the battery, it will also recharge better on those short drives.
Hi again JonnyG, if your battery charger has a RECONDITIONING mode, do not use it on your battery.
AGMs do not tolerate those high voltages and the CHARGE/FLOAT cycles in the NORMAL setting as described above will achieve the same results without risking harm to an AGM.2008 TDV8 RR Lux + 2009 D4 2.7

When you fit an AGM battery to a D4 that has not been set for it the battery will receive a higher voltage than it would like. AGMs like to be 14.7v or below; if not tweaked it will receive up to 15.2v or more when the weather is cold. There is very little difference at summer temps.

Thanks Robbie.. the original battery that is fitted now is an AGM (photo above) going to give it a good run out as it only travels to chadderton & back every day & then see how we go before i fork out the best part of £200 for a battery

I think where you were brought up does have a lasting impact. I took schooling at North Chadderton as normal, until my final 2 years when I moved to sleepy Cheshire. The new school still had bullies but none of them carried a knife, let alone use it on a pupil or teacher!
I did have good times in Oldham and Chadderton though.
