Serviced the FBH a couple of days ago following Robbie's top guide
The brake cleaner wouldn't shift the coke so tried a can of Mr. Muscle oven cleaner (other brands available) . Aided with my good lady's electric toothbrush I had clean aluminium in 20 minutes
Brake cleaner through the fuel pipe/jet and all is done. Brake cleaner also helps rinse toothbrush before returning to its rightful place
The FBH didn't want to start at first, locked out.. Plugged in the IID tool - primed ok but test procedure kept coming up with failure e7 I think?? Took car for run then it fired up, bit smokey at first but soon cleared - the IID tends to flood unit I think when priming.
All seemed good the following morning at 2 degrees so I've ordered the Altox controller from Beanie

Good to hear of another success. Using oven cleaner sounds a little brutal on aluminium though, doesn't it contain sodium hydroxide?

Doesn't appear to contain any, even if it did you only leave it on for upto 30 minutes (don't leave overnight). Certainly eradicates hard scraping and possible damage to surface, just rinse with warm water and fine scotch pads

I can't get my FBH to stay going. After a few min I get fault code
B1D29-93 (2F) No start, even after restart attempt - Component failure - no operation
Watching it on an IID it appears that the fuel pump turns off first.
It runs and smokes the place out for about 3 min then shuts down. I got it running for about 6 min with compressed air before it shuts down. I've just ordered a cable from this site to connect to the PC. Do those in the know here think that I need to take it apart to clean the chamber while I'm waiting for the cable?
Thanks E

Bloody temperamental things, Frosty this morning and it didn't appear to run???
Erea, are you looking at the live values whilst running FBH - I wasn't aware I could do that, I'll have to have a look. Also gotta be worth cleaning/servicing yours, gotta start somewhere - damn things!

Pulled this one apart this morning with the intention of decoking it - it had been removed from a D3 by its owner some time ago so I had no fault information.
Easily the cleanest FBH I have seen. Suspiciously clean in fact:

The slight rattle from the burner can gave it away - the metal fuel cup had disintegrated to almost nothing:

I'm guessing that the FBH was running overly hot/lean so leaving little residue, but melting the burner fuel cup. There was some heat discolouration on the control side of the FBH too.
Ah well, worth cracking it open for the autopsy.Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948

Hi guys
I have been having some issues with my FBH it is in lockout mode as per the picture:
And whilst removing the unit to service trying to fix the FBH, as per the excellent HowTo from Robbie - thanks
I noticed that flexible exhaust pipe that goes down towards the front wheel was damaged beyond repair.
Other than buying a replacement part is there any way of using like a flexible copper pipe or other more accessible alternative pls?
Thanks

Guys
Don't bother as I just tried the remote heating on the FBH and it worked for couple of minutes only, in think it has more problems than I have imagined.
Thanks

@Luciogodoy,
Here's the P/N for the lower exhaust part:
JEZ500050 - they come in at around £28 (Just google the part)
Mine has gone the same way, so am planning to purchase a replacement
Cheers

You can also purchase a length of the flexible pipe on its own, which is usually cheaper.

Hi All;
I think my FBH is finished!
I've tried reseting it, running the fuel primer diagnostics, and then fire & run the FBH via the JLR SDD diagnostics.
Although the results are all OK, when I run the car the FBH runs for few minutes and them goes back to being locked, and throughs a number of errors to-do with not reaching the right temperature.
I've cleaned the FBH, as per Robbie's guide, is there anything else i should try before buying a 2nd hand FBH, pls?
In terms of being a 2nd hand - is this worth? as ho can you tell if its good enough - luck i guess?
Thanks

My Disco smelt very much of burned rubber this morning
So hoping the part turns up soon!
I did look on eBay for 2nd hand FBH's Lucio, and there were some on sale out there with day warranty, so could be worth it. Or get one, service it and then fit? Iggy/Ieuan

Hi
I wonder if there is anything else I could do, as internally the fbh looks ok, however the side where the glow plug resides was very rusty!
Maybe the glow plug is kaput!!
