Discomadness's MY07 D3 HSE aka the shed thread.
Well I've been here for a while now and thought that it would be a good time to start my own thread rather than loads of random threads and posts.
I bought "the flying brick" back in June of this year and although I've had loads of early D1's this is the first modern discovery I've had.
I fell in love with it instantly. Much to swmbo's chargrin I might add.
I've got a few issues with the car, some serious, some not so much and some mods in progress. I'll start the thread with some photos of my car and work my way through. I'd also like to say thank you to everyone who has given me good advice on some of the other threads regarding my faults.
So far the mods....
De-tango
RLD spare wheel protector (not fitted yet)
A/f super bright led sidelight and indicator bulbs.
Hopefully lots more to come.
Faults -
Dodgy gear change between first and second (auto)
Suspension HDC fault. Hoping to tie up with member rusty to see what fault codes are showing. I'm thinking it's probably better to wipe all the codes and see what comes back up.
I'll keep updating as I go but at the moment work is getting in the way.

Well so much for updating as I go but to be fair apart from minor servicing all I've done is fit a beanie grille...
so. Spring is approaching and I've decided after much thought that it is time to give my girl some serious attention. I'm definitely going to split the body off and attend to a load of jobs myself.
My aim of this thread now is to tie in a load of separate threads and when the work kicks off document as much as possible. Hopefully people with better knowledge can link threads and offer advice so that anyone attempting this kind of job can have a go to thread. I'll list thing I know Need attention first and then some bits that I'm going to check or whatever while the body is off. I know it's going to be a project but there's no way I want to let the car go so given she's a keeper it makes sense to go through it.
A bit of background.... my disco is a 56 plate tdv6 hse auto. It is a 7a chassis so Euro 4 engine. 87000 miles on the clock.
Needed work...
Twitchy steering, this could be lower arms or steering rack. Regards lower arms I intend to replace all the suspension arms and upgrade as many as possible.
Brakes front and rear, upgrade front to brembo calipers etc and rears to v8 overhaul epb.
Torque converter, replace this and upgrade gearbox pan, fit remote oil cooler. Probably take gearbox to be checked over while it's off.
Timing belts, front and rear with oil pump etc.
Turbo check and fixings mod. May replace with new/recon and fit silicone hoses
Cross over pipe check
Brake lines front to rear check/replace
Clean/paint chassis and anything else that needs it
Check rear aircon connections and pipe work.
Front valve block for air suspension leak.
Work I would like to do...
Blank etc egr valves,
Remove cat
Upgrade intercooler.
I'll be updating as I go... any part numbers for anything I've listed or missed would be hugely appreciated, Bearmach are going to see me a lot again. I was in there most days when I totally rebuilt a few D1's a few years back.
Thanks for reading and apologies if I've sent anyone to sleep. Jarrod

Help and advice needed.... if anyone has read some of the other threads I've got going about the cross over pipe and various other items... a brief overview. Cross over pipe is broken, I've 99% got it off however. The 3 bolts turbo side are not having it. Basically the long and short is I've tried various but removers etc with no joy. I'm now left with the problem of getting better access. I was hoping to get a 2 post lift but that's not going to happen anytime soon I don't think.
I need to lift the body for access. Can anyone tell me how much room is needed to roll the chassis halfway out of the front of the car ? The front bumper and intercooler are all removed as are headlights and grille.
I'm guessing the "slam panel" is removable, can I unbolt this jack the body up and roll the chassis out the front of the car ? I'm talking enough to get at the cross over pipe so probably had way. Please guys I need your experience on this before I unbolt more bits. Another option that I don't like is removing the gearbox out the bottom. Jarrod

I've been a busy boy....
after sulking all day yesterday, a huge row with swmbo "why did you buy that piece of crap" etc. My father and I had a chat and his response was "we need a lift, it's the only safe way" ok so I had a look on eBay and there was a single phase 3ton 2 post lift for sale in Bridgend for £500 ! A few messages later, a few phone calls to mates and we went to collect it this morning. Tragic story but the guy who owned it has passed away and his sister is trying to sell everything. It took 2 hours to dismantle and load up.
Every cloud... dad bought it because he thinks I've suffered enough. Lol.
Problem now is the garage is not big enough. Looks like it will be going outside for now until I can build a bigger garage

Wow The ultimate boys toy
I assume you have a garage / workshop with the headroom?
Edit: Must read more slowly - just saw the last sentence re:garage.

I do that all the time. My garage is plenty long and high but only 12 foot wide inside. The plan for now is to install a new base alongside the garage at the same floor height and instal and use the ramp, in time build new garage around old one. I've been looking at some of these cladded barn type buildings, I have a contact who can manufacture to size. It's all down to planning though.Jarrod

A major milestone has been reached today. Managed to get the disco pushed into the garage and tested the ramp out by lifting her up. Work to begin tomorrow.

Hi
Am totally green with envy from u having the post lift
How come that garage looks like a tardis once ur disco is pushed inside
The air vent just pull off, mind the clips though as they have an amazing trick of flying past u , never to be seen again
Carefully pull the air vent cover from the bottom, u will see it slightly hooks in at the top
Ref that panel will double check to see if mine is also flush , never noticed it
