I was thinking of having a permanent supply built in so it was powered all the time the tow car was attached. FFRR 2017 4.4SDV8 Autobiography. Cost so much I must be mad!

That would involve a lot of extra wiring, switch and fuse, simply conect to a rear number plate light and all you have to do is switch the side lights on and you have the camera powered, no need for extra cables switch or fuses It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

I've fitted the video switch and all the kit associated but the camera which arrived just now doesn't come straight on from a parked position. When I select drive the option of rear view camera or back to display comes up. When I select rear view camera the new camera comes on. My worry is that when I get up to 5mph the camera will go off.
Tintenter, do you have to select rear camera from the screen option and does it stay on as you pull away?
Cheers

Just taken the D4 for a run with the camera fitted and it switches off over 5mph. Can you think of anything I may have done wrongly?
I've powered it from the 12v supply in the boot via a switch which has taken the place of the cigarette lighter socket on the NSR boot side panel which I never used. It's effectively powered all the time but only comes on when reverse is selected. When I then go into drive I select rear view camera but it returns to the home screen once 5mph it reached. Not a calamity because it does the reversing thing but would have preferred it to be on all the time. Any thoughts appreciated.
Edit: I should add I don't have an earth to the camera, just a live as it didn't seem to need one. If that helps. FFRR 2017 4.4SDV8 Autobiography. Cost so much I must be mad!

Could it be connected to the auto lock that locks the doors at 5 mph?- disable auto lock with the indicator stalk settings to check. It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

I can't think of anything I've done to cause that on mine. I am powered from the 12v supply in the boot and it all works a treat until I get up to 5mph. I can only assume the 16MY has the trigger for switching off beyond the join where I've hijacked the signal. I'd better buy a new D4 then. Thanks for your efforts on this.

Fisherman,
finally got round to reading your write up of the reversing camera connection to the back of the caravan on the Vanmaster owners site, very good and thanks for the mention Tintenter
