Scouting around, there seems to be a few cheaper option to ZF oil in Vaxhaul and BMW specs

It's Dexron VI spec isn't it?

Febi oil should be ok Confused

No worries Gareth, I've emailed the manufacturer / supplier, an independent in NE similar to Morris's , their own bottled oil, but is Dexon VI, will await confirmation Thumbs Up

Had a reply Thumbs Up

DexronVI is NOT an equivalent the Lifeguard 8, however as an oil wholesaler they have told me they will shortly have a Lifeguard 8 oil in their own bottles, I have asked and a 5L bottle will be made available , sounds perfect for this purpose , will update Thumbs Up

The Mannol AG60 is still hard to beat given the barking mad price when ordered from Germany. Other options include Ravenol 8HP:

Excellent guide. Did this today without any catastrophes. Only managed to get around 3l out and around 3.5l back in. Not sure where I went wrong.... oil was about 78c when I drained it. Guess I'll give it a few weeks any try again

I've been running that Mannol oil in my ZF8 speed D4 for about 3k mikes now. No ill effects, smooth changes and mpg about the same as it ever was.

One thing to note. I used my IId tool to reset the adaptive memory. It initially had a very adverse effect on the quality of changes, and it took a good few hundred miles to get back to normal. My advice would be don't reset the adaptive memory unless you really have a good reason to do it.

Did my gearbox oil today.
The mannol stuff from Germany arrived in 3 days!
Dead easy job. But a real pita waiting for the gearbox to cool down. Mine took over 3 hours and I even put a desk fan blowing on the under side for the last hour.

Gear changes seem quicker and I can feel the difference reversing up the steep hill in my drive.

Pic shows new oil vs my 75k oil.

And to think, JLR believes that that black fluid can do another 75,000 miles!

I think ZF's own schedule makes a lot more sense. With the price of Mannol from Germany being so ridiculously low an annual drain and fill is a no-brainer.

Change early, change often.

Just did this on my 2012 D4 with 55k miles using Robbie's excellent instructions. I also used the Mannol oil and I bought enough to repeat the process later in the summer to get more complete flush at the end.

I haven't cleared the adaptations yet, but during the test drive I noticed smoother tranny operation already. Any suggestions whether to reset or not?

Let me reply myself.

I finally did the adaptation reset after test driving it for a day and I must say that it was worth it. It was pretty good already after the oil change but now after also resetting the adaptations operation is pretty close to perfect.

Hi Kimi,

I'm picking mine up after tranny oil change. How did you reset the adaptation?

Thanks!
