As a current RRS2 driver, I have to say I feel that the D5 looks very very similar to the sport. Which is no bad thing..... It's maybe not what most people on this forum want (the forum members on here definitely seem to be more utilitarian and not 'posey') but will no doubt sell very very well.

You can definitely see the whole similarities on every vehicle now - from the DS > Evoque > D5 > RRS > RR

I have chosen not to go for a new RRS2 (facelift due next year) or even the D5 - I am going to pick up one of the last of the landmark D4's as I think they are a fantastic looking machine and they are so loaded with extras it's the sensible option.

We will all know in the next few weeks I guess what all the features will be. No doubt it will have some new modern blingy touches as that is what people want more so than high and low gearboxes (look at the current RRS2 as a prime example - you have to spec the split gearbox!) but will no doubt be an expensive option

Re: Let's be realistic...comparisons

BLFarrar wrote:
We are all going to compare the Disco 5 with what we have now "as good", better, even worse if a feature we all accept as a given now isn't on fitted as OEM kit.
We have a sampler in the form of the Freelander 3 aka Disco sport.....that may give a clu to the shape.

But.....would you judge the FFRR by the Evoke ?......which is another iteration of the Freelander 2.....sort of a squished one with a ridiculously high price tag "bang for your buck wise"......to me daft money.

Disco 5.....I would like to think if you could take the "B"pillar forwards of the RRS (engines/s, front seat) & graft on "B" backwards 2nd row seats that take three adults, 3rd row seats (2 off) that stack away & leave a load space akin to what we have right now - especially height & width wise.
Split tailgate preferably...it makes sense, it works, & has loads of uses.

Same towing capacity
Air suspension, dual ratio box,
Rear AC......I need this for two passengers who do discriminate.....on 500 mile journeys not the school run or going to Sainsbury's

No gimmicks like mobile phone remote driving apps, if buyers want rear seat infotainment let them bolt something on but not at the expense of rear AC...
...minimal bling.....that's for the FFRR, RRS, Evoke type people
Essentially a practical "thinking mans" practical, working vehicle at a cost that is realistic.....that is what we have right now - for this who think it's too big or has features (listed above) they don't need or are downsizing - buy a DS or some other make.

If LR don't listen to customers existing they are making a huge mistake.....other makers use the Disco 3/4 as the benchmark...we know why.

I don't disagree with what you say, I'm more than happy with my bog Standard SE though could've been priced a bit cheaper but bling is what's selling. FFRR, RRS, Evoque and DS are selling well, LR can't make enough of them and as a business that's what matters to them, LR as we knew it, died a long time ago.

But..

Does a Disco need bling ?...no it doesnt
Is bling useful ?...not on a working vehicle
are those who want need or demand bling really interested in the other attributes ?...probably not
who pays for bling ?....actually we do

so unlike the FFRR, RRS, EVOKE, DS the Disco 5 doesnt need bling
however having it may sell to those who need, want or are blinded by bling
 BREXIT - done properly.

What is your definition of bling ? Surely most D4's are pretty blinged up ? Sounds to me like you're describing a defender not a disco.
This bling you describe isn't anything new, it's been there for years ! They have updated the look of the new discovery and so they should.

Bling for me is shiny naff stuff that serves no purpose, not technology or a high quality cabin.

I like comfort and quality which I think the Discovery has always sought to provide. When the D3 came out it was full of technology and Comfort so I hope the D5 continues to push these boundaries with even more cutting edge edge technology, innovation and comfort.

I dont really care for a D4...as when they appeared I didn't want to swap my D3 HSE.....it would have been a step backwards
Bling
Ruched Leather.......either on seats or door cards or dashboard
Trim for the sake of trim...chromed plastic adornments
Signature lights......look pretty tis the LED's fail& are an MOT issue....same with rear lights whole units instead of a globe
Air Vents that are net air vents (just a piece of trim)
Chromed Plastic door levers (god forbid)
Painted wheel arch surrounds & bumpers

only my opinion though
 BREXIT - done properly.

No more piano black or chrome trim than at present.

Plenty of black trim on the exterior of the D5.

I reckon a pre production build, test mule with a bit of centre dashboard isn't a representative view of the whole thing[/i]

I thought we were discussing the pictures at the beginning of this thread. Are you saying the D5 is going to differ from this ?!

Sadly....

No
It's grotesque...
very SsangYong or Hyundai.

Function clearly isn't dictating form here
Some stylist had lost the plot..
