Depends on whether you look up or down at the issue.

With some power tailgates it's possible to set the preferred height. Hold the tailgate where you want it and then hold down the close button until the car bongs. So they can fit in low garages etc. Dunno if that's possible with the D5 though.

The more of these threads I read I'm starting to wonder if Land Rover actually spoke to anyone who'd ever owned a Discovery before.
We all know they will sell 1000s to the market they are aiming for but it certainly seems the whole family/utility/van thing is gone and they have balls up with regard to to traditional Discovery owners.IID PRO

I wonder if they thought re existing Disco owners wandering over the road to BMW/Merc/Audi/VW/Skoda dealers to see what they have to offer. OK, we have a certain misguided loyalty to the brand but most peeps are sensible and will see sense.

LR demo team told me that the tailgate can be set at any height, although i didn't see it in action. Even when fully open the bottom off the tailgate curves down. ready to slice your head open

The Grey Demo D5 doing the rounds at the moment had a very strong tailgate stop force. We trapped my 9 year old daughter as it was closing, it pushed her back and wasn't stopping the sales guy had to intervene pulling the tailgate backup. We (they) put it down to being played with so much.MY06 S - Gone but not forgotten

I was told by a LR non salesman that the vehicles going round the country are all pre-production models and some of the components have been "exercised" excessively to many times the average life cycle of an average retail vehicle. This includes the rear door hydraulic stays which we're definitely a bit soft on the vehicle I saw in a showroom demo. By pushing the door up after it had opened on the electric opening system, it went up quite a distance more but that doesn't solve the problem of opening the door in a multi story car park with limited vertical clearance.

So what's the equivalent in terms of real use then? A few weeks of being played with maps to what in real use... a year, two, what?
I can agree that the early demo cars get played with more than your average, so it's going to wear out faster. But come on
Have LR already identified a part which they can ramp up the price on after 3 years 06 D3 SE / 15 LR D90 XS SW / 88 LR 90 Td5 / 68 BMW 2000 ti

What is the difference with the D5 tailgate and any other estate type vehicle tailgate, they can all give issues with regards to opening in some areas such as some multi storey car parks. I had this 20 year ago with a ford Galaxy. The same can be said for banging your head, in fact my wife ended up in AE after knocking herself out on the tailgate of our Galaxy, she never did it again though MY17 D5 1st Edition Namib Orange
