Still hapy with mine. (Alto) jusdt changed my stereo for an MY08 one as reception was cutting out. LR said new one was an improvement, so withou asking they ordered it and will argue later.
reduced price on brakes when asked too.
I am on corporate program so get free loan car. Thought it was just me but all Alto customers get a free loaner. Very Happy

Rob,

Why the NO NO NO??
I assume your response is in relation to the locals in the Capital.

Can you elaborate on the problems with the Disco and the issues with the Dealership.

Regards, Dennis.

Australia

Sorry but this is a bit long winded.

I’ve had both the fortune and misfortune of dealing with a number of LR dealers along the east coast.

I went to buy my first LR, a D1 from a mob south of Sydney ( they are no longer an LR dealer so no need to mention their name ) but while I was waiting to finish signing all the paperwork, I was sitting in the vehicle and luckily noticed the odometer was showing 400+ kms on it. They were only trying to sell me a demo vehicle as a new vehicle.

Gave them the flick and went over to Trivets at Parramatta. The sales staff couldn’t have been nicer and I had nothing but praise for the service staff, every time the D1 went in for a service.

After 3 years, decided to get a new D2 so back to the good people at Trivetts.

WHAT GOOD PEOPLE, it’s amazing how many staff a company can go through in 3 years. Although they had new D2s setting in the lot, they didn’t want to know us unless we were interested in buying some form of BMW or an MG.

Decided to stick with the D1.

Short time later, moved to Queensland and after being there about 6 months, was driving through Brisbane’s north side and saw a black D2 at Austral motors. Stopped to have a good look at it, the salesman was great ( so I thought ), signed on the dotted line and picked up the D2 3 days later after a few accessories were added.

When I picked it up is when the crap started. They had put fog lights on instead of driving lights, the bull bar was crooked and so on, but they assured me everything would be fixed at the first service, yeah right.

After 3 services and 6 months of fighting with them and even LRA could not get them to do their work properly, after having bits stolen from the vehicle, second hand parts used as replacements and so on, LRA ask would I mind changing my servicing to Bruce Lynton Land Rover, on the Gold Coast.

By this time I had just about had enough of any thing to do with Land Rovers but the D2 was only 6 months old so I agreed.

Talk about black and white, even though Bruce Lyntons hadn’t sold me the D2, they couldn’t do enough for me and on one of my many visits to them to get things fixed, I had some relos with me and while I was making arrangements with the service center, the relos had organised a demo of the then new model RR.

5 minutes into the test drive and I was hooked, signed on the dotted line and drove away in what would be come the most unreliable vehicle I have ever owned ( and I had some bombs ) but it was also the most enjoyable vehicle to drive, that I have ever owned and there be the problem, my wife liked it too and we would fight to see who would get it for the day.

When ever I put the RR in for a service, I would be supplied with a D2 as a courtesy car.

Eventually on services trips I was supplied with D3s and the wife fell in love with them so we got one for her.

Now, even though the 03 RR was so unreliable, it was made tolerable by the great way both LRA and Bruce Lyntons ALWAYS fixed any problems as quickly as possible.

Two months ago I was in Melbourne and with 180,000 on the clock decided to get a new RR if one was available ( tried 6 months earlier at Bruce Lyntons but non were available short of ordering one and a 6 months wait ).

Went to Melbourne City Land Rover and they were absolutely professional and friendly staff there, both the sales staff and I was lucky to meet some of the service staff as well, all top people.

They told me they had non but there were 4 Vogues available but all were interstate and IF they could get one, it would take a few days to deliver it but this wasn’t a problem as the paperwork would take that long.

Signed on the dotted line and paid a deposit and off I went.

Two days later they ring me with the bad news that none of the dealers with the non committed RRs would part with them.

It seems the Yanks and Russians are just about buying every RR that Land Rover are making so very few non committed RRs are being shipped into Oz.

Melbourne City Land did tell me there was one RR Luxury ( $20k dearer ) available at another Melbourne LR dealers.

Lance Dixons at Doncaster had the exact colour I wanted but it was the Lux, so I rang them and was told it was brand new and it was not yet registered as the buyer had just cancelled buying it during pre deliver.

So I went straight over and had a look. A lot more than I wanted to pay ( Totalled at $169k ) but I had no real choice.

What I haven’t mentioned was that while I was driving around Melbourne in my 03 RR, I had noticed that the transmission was going ( for the second time in 12 months $7+k to fix ) and I really didn’t think it would make the 1700 km trip home.

Right from the start I would not have given you 2c for the salesman at Lance Dixons, he was a smart ass from word go and only I had no choice I would not have used this dealer.

Got all the paperwork done and rolled up on the Friday to finalise everything and once done was told the RR is mine but the salesman is off, I’ll have to pick it up the next day when he’s back, bit strange but!

Next day and after a bloody long drive across Melbourne, I arrive and swap a bit of gear from the 03 RR to the 07 RR and as I’m about to take MY personal plates off, the smart ass salesman informs me that the plates have to stay on until Monday when the RR is taken to the motor registry and they would then post the plates back to me.

Finally, I take charge of my new RR and thats it, there was absolutely no reason for making me wait another day other than this Censored giving me the keys, any of the salesmen could have done this the day before instead of me having to waste another day in Melbourne.

I was NOT IMPRESSED but it wasn’t over yet.

I had an Unregistered Vehicle Certificate issued on the RR so I could drive it to Queensland to get it registered ( $ 2000 cheaper in QLD ) and on the following Monday I go straight around to the Qld motor registry.

During the Vehicle Inspection, the Inspecting officer pointed at the oil dip stick and said she thinks that should be somewhere else.

As the oil dip stick was just laying across the top of the radiator, I’d say she was right, the Censored at Lance Dixons had removed the dip stick to check the oil ( I hope ) and hadn’t put it back. They must do some great services NOT!

I have rung and rung these scum bags to try and get my Personal Plates back but I’d say I can forget them now.

If your in QLD, go to Bruce Lyntons and in Melbourne, go to Melbourne City LR. These two dealers seem to be the only honest dealers out of the ones I’ve had anything to do with.

Drivesafe,

That's good information to keep in mind for the Melbournites. I always wondered about the Lance Dixon dealership and I think you convinced me never to set foot in that place again.

Before I bought the D3 I visited the Lance Dixon dealership in Ferntree Gully (before it closed) and I must admit the salesman there was extremely arrogant. It must be a trait for thier staff Rolling Eyes

Thank You Drivesafe for the heads up. I know a bloke that drives from Tathra NSW to LD to get his RRS serviced. He reckons they are great. They fixed my compressor under warranty & I thought maybe if I need a service in metro Melb they might be worth giving a crack.
Maybe not now. The dipstick thing Shocked thats not good.

I suppose any service centre is OK as long as you are getting "service" Exclamation

As soon as they stuff-up we don't want to know them Whistle

Drivesafe's experience with his dipstick,

(I am surprised his engine even ran properly, let alone took him all the way home to Qld)

reminds me of the time that I picked my Alfa up after its first service.

The dealer principal drove it out of the workshop and held the door for me, I popped the bonnet and checked

the oil.

Did he abuse me, (the langage would have made a sailor blush) Embarassed Embarassed Embarassed

However he had to eat his words when I showed him the dipstick,

NO OIL Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

Never went back

"Alfa" and "no oil" are synonyms are they not?

A mate at work has one of those new Alfas and it ran out of oil between services and ceased the engine. Alfa blamed the owner for not checking the oi regularly and for not knowing that Alfas drink oil. The engine replacement cost $16K and he had to pay $4K.

Chris,

This was in 1967, when Alfas were built better than now. Very Happy

I did mention that it was its first service Smile and they had charged me for new oil Smile

Its just that they forgot to add it Rolling Eyes

As I pointed out to the dealer principal, would he had replaced the engine at his cost Question

I have had 2 Alfas.
A 1974 Alfetta sedan (1st car) with lots of electrical issues but boy could it go even beat a Ferrari 245 (i think that was the number) Dino doing laps at local race circuit Very Happy Very Happy
and a 1985 Alfa 33 4wd wagon. The 33 came with me for 2 years living in Katherine (NT) from Hobart and then a year in Cloncurry (QLD) and never had a problem until the input shaft to the gearbox silently died when driving into Sydney on the way home Shocked Cost $700 to fix and I sold it next year as moved o/sea to live (Wished I still had that car!!).
I used to be in the Tasmanian Alfa club and we had lots of fun meetings (Often complaining about the latest faults Very Happy ).

Peter

Australia

When you buy a new vehicle, no matter what make or what dealership you buy from, you would think the brain dead dealerships, like both Austral in Brisbane and to a lesser case with Lance Dixons in Melbourne, would want you to come back and more importantly to build a good name for both their dealership and the make of vehicles they sell.

In the case of Lance Dixons, as I was taking the vehicle interstate after buying it, they just didn’t give a damn.

While I was in the process of buying the RR they were all to helpful but as soon as the deal was done, the REAL behaviour of this company became obvious.

Unfortunately for them I make a few trips to Melbourne each year and I’ll be calling in to try to get either my number plates back or the $495 they cost me and I’ll make sure they have potential customers in the showroom when I call.

Maybe if they loose a sale or two, they may think twice about the way the treat customers after they sell them a vehicle.

I can not see what the advantage was to this crooked company to first lie to me about having to leave the number plates ( playing on my naivety ) on the vehicle in the first place and then, even after so many phone calls, to just refuse to return my property.

My vehicle had ###01 as it’s number plate and my wife's D3 has ###02. I have been informed by the motor registry that, to get new plates of the same number, I will not only be $495 out of pocket but I will have to inform them what happened to the old plates, so I make it quite clear that Lance Dixons stole them.

Whats more annoying is that I still had the second remote key for the old RR back in Queensland when I picked up the new RR but I got my wife to send it express post to the Lance Dixons so they would be inconvenienced.

It’s a shame they don’t have the same consideration for their customers.

Best Dealer I've had

I drove 400K to my nearest LR Dealer (from inland Queensland) for a test drive at Mackay. The salesman, David Moore, is the best bloke in the industry, I reckon. He knows his product inside out; is just as eccentric as his customers (!!!) about Landies; and does not assume women are stupid (as every other car salesman has). I took no convincing, and ordered my S3 HSE TD6 (which then took seven months to build and come from UK!)

Popped down to Tassie for a trip (13,000K there and back) Had our car serviced in Tasmania, at Launceston (where they did an okay job, but we weren't convinced they actually did what we asked), then again in Mackay. NO problems there. They know what they are doing.

North Jacklin Motors. Highly recommended. Will drive back there (800 k round trip) for each service. It is just what you do, okay?

Bow down Bow down Bow down Luv that car!
