Will stick to my 55mpg diesel skippy-mobile for as long as pos. Then will be getting the last petrol or diesel hybrid as close as practical to the cut off date. And as said a good few times before, unless forced into one I won’t touch pure leckie until it can do ~650 miles real world on a charge with everything running, plus take 10 minutes to fill up. Present range is 590 miles with 75 res with a 55ltr tank. I for one am not prepared to voluntarily sit and stare at mingie service station coffee going cold having consumed their dry sandwiches.
You can drive without stopping for 10-12 hours? Your bladder has improved since we last caught up!I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

Wee stop takes 10 minutes, maybe 12 mins tops, incl picking up a couple of coffees from Micky-Dees having ordered on the app as soon as handbrake has been applied. 2 of per trip. We’ll maybe 3,

This is what’s holding me back from jumping ship, finding a charger round here isn’t a problem but finding one that works and is available is a problem.23.5MY Defender 90 X-Dynamic SE D250 MHEV Pangea Green
Perhaps, in the way wind-up radios and torches have made their place in the market, THIS is due a return for that time when you run out of juice 100yds from a charger ?

So how much 'advanced planning' have you had to do for longer journeys in the ID3 to counter any range anxiety?
If the majority of your journeys are short'ish commutes then I'm sure there will be almost none and your experience will be identical (if quieter and cheaper) than with a diesel/petrol engined vehicleSteve N | 21MY Defender | 08MY Discovery 3 (history) | 06MY Discovery 3 (ancient history)

That's the key thing with EVs, SN. For many who do relatively short distances such as <50 mile commutes, range anxiety shouldn't be an issue, nor should special planning be required. Plug it in in the evening, drive to work in the morning, back in the evening, plug it back in. Simple. No planning, just cheaper day-to-day "fuel" costs. Yes, the cars cost to buy, but if someone is on the PCP merry-go-round it's probably not that much different for many,
And these sorts of journeys are very typical in the UK. The majority just aren't doing multiple hundred mile trips every day/week. For holidays and weekend away, perhaps it becomes an issue that needs to be planned for, however.Visiting from rrsport.co.uk

Pricing is another concern I think as prices vary so widely away from low home charging rates.
25ppKwh is fairly common and an acceptable cost, cheaper still than petrol/diesel.
Motorways are quite varied, I'd say 30ppKwh is fairly typical but I've seen up to 79ppKwh.
The Fiat 500e I mentioned earlier was 69ppKwh and I had 15.1Kwh so £10.42 worth and that would have got me around 50 miles in round numbers.
For £10.42 I could have bought around 7.5 litres/1.65 gallons of diesel and my Defender would have seen me easily go the same distance as the Fiat 500e. In similar 'economy driving mode' as the Fiat was driven I would have seen 47mpg in my Defender (I've done and posted the stats on here and that was driven at 70mph on cruise) so around 77 miles potentially. At those prices I know which I'd rather be driving....
Again, home charging would beat that hands down at around 10-12ppKwh?
Oh, and electric cars are no quieter than ICE cars 'on the go' above low speeds. Majority of road noise is from wind and tyres and a half decent ICE car is just as quiet at speed and even at walking pace in many cases given you don't really hear the engine still then (petrol at least)

We're looking at a Mini Countryman PHEV for SWMBO. It'll do 35 on electric and can be charged at home. This will do her for most days. Any longer then she has a decent engine. For us, this type of car would work pretty well.New Defender L663 110 SE (known as Noddy!)
Sold Volvo XC90 R-Design (known as Basil)
Sold - D4 HSE (Known as Gerty)
No longer the Old Buses original owner
231,000 miles and counting
05 S manual owned from March 2005
D4 Face lifted
Still original injectors and turbo
V8 Front brakes
BAS Remap, Allisport Intercooler and deCat
EGRs blanked
T-Max split charge
Hanibal Expeedition rack
Prospeed ladder
Duratrac tyres
IID BT
BAS FBH control
I expect the average charging cost (averaged across all sources from home to motorway services) to gradually increase while the cost to buy/lease/subscribe will slowly come down. The various commercial interests will ensure the cost per mile (whole cost) will be broadly the same ICE/BEV in short order, with a bit added where you can, because you can.
For example if I look at a Polestar 2 with a similar spec to my C300, my PCP payments would be roughly £120pm more
My cost to charge for 1000 miles per month is roughly £40
My cost for petrol for 1000 miles per month is roughly £160
Oh look. £120 saving on fuel vs £120pm extra PCP cost.I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

And the special planning becomes less frequent the greater the range. I've had my I-Pace for 3 years now and have needed to charge mid-journey less than half a dozen times in that period. An ex-Disco3 / FFRR owner ......
