What annoys me is documentary progs. on tv. They stop for an advert break & when they return they repeat a short version of what we watched before the break. Do they think our memory is such short span that we can't remember what we were watching? Or, perhaps they think that their prog is so boring that we have forgotten.never drive faster than your guardian angel can fly

Visa versa - don't think I've ever heard that one.
One really strange thing is part of the westcountry dialect where I've heard people replace words ending in ow with ell - have you ever seen a windle zil or a wheel barrell?
Perhaps Vicea Versa would be a better way of explaining it.

I've thought of a few more: People who use a double negative like "I ain't done nothing". If you haven't done nothing, what you're actually saying is you have done something. If they just said "I ain't done anything" or "I have done nothing" it wouldn't be a problem.
Text speak..............also pointless.

People who complain about the use of American spellings and pronunciations, when often they are merely older versions of English and people who complain about changing usage of words/pronunciations, how do you think we got to the English we have today. Language isn't static, it's a living evolving thing==================================

True enough Mogwyth. I find it ironic that people moan about American spelling and then say it should be the French-derived (ok, Norman-derived but they were sort of "French") word. They're usually the types with Union Flag underpants too.
It would be nice, however, if people could spell and had a basic grasp of punctuation. Relying on spell checking software means the correct spelling of the wrong word: if it's the wrong to/too/two or there/their/they're etc. it makes them looks silly.
Don't get me started on the misuse of apostrophes...!Visiting from rrsport.co.uk

Yesterday. Waiting to take the grandson to school .he is only seven. Cartoon netbwotk was on and at every commercial break here was Jeremy Irons wanting £3 to provide clean water for people in Africa. Got to assume that the vast majority of "viewers" were of a similar age. For goodness sake it's a cartoon programme for kids and to me such an advert was completely out of line and should never have been shown.

Probably with the intentions of making sure that children are aware that in other parts of the world children are not as lucky as they are.

Children deserve a childhood free from guilt. They will learn soon enough of the inequalities in the world with this sort of commercial exploitation.
