To summarise I'm a bit unimpressed with the engine but could live with everything else. Currently I'm driving a BMW 40msport X5, the build and feel is far superior and the performance is amazing for a diesel.

Bit of an unfair comparison for the D5. The RRS is intended for that sort of comparison.

The Disco Sport was provided by my employer so I had no choice. Very nice vehicle don't get me wrong but expensive and not as good in my opinion as it could be for c.£35k

I'm still a fan of the brand but it's dwindling as there are other offerings now that drive better, use less fuel and have better tech. I no longer do much off-road other than sports fields or dirt tracks so it's the other functions of the vehicle that are starting to be more important to me

Thats also a little why ive had an evoque

D4 0-60 8.8 seconds

D5 (3.0 diesel) 0- 60 7.7 seconds plenty enough for me.

Possibly not if they are trying to move the D5 more upmarket. Isnt the D5 trying to get into the Q7/X5 market anyway? A BMW/Audi buyer is probably exactly the people they are trying to attract.

I would say:

D5: XC90 / Q7 - both excellent 7 seat vehicles but neither are sporty in nature
RRS: X5 / Cayenne - both more designed around the driver at the expense of the family practicality of the 7 seaters.

spent an hour with the D5 today. I "popped in" thinking i might as well bite the bullet and just order one but I didn't.

Its a really nice motor, better quality interior and better technology BUT from my perspective its let down by the practicality. As lots of you will know, boot space is a priority for me and in short the D5's just isnt as good for my needs as the D4s. I thought looking at it a second time would be better but as soon as that massive door opened my heart sank. The sales guy saw it in my face and said "no good?" we spent 30 mins discussing and comparing to the D4 and he actually said they had recieved quite a few negatives about the boot.

The flap thing was just irritating and the driving arm on the left hand side was not travelling true on the First Edition below it was wavering side to side as it operated. The flap was clearly flexing under load and the speed it operated at was too slow to be used for dog holding.

I would also say storage is not as good. I get the tech holding approach for iPads etc but for bigger stuff there is nothing in the boot apart from the underfloor thing which is blocked by the load divider. The two little cubby holes in the back are hilarious you could fit some Pencils in them and thats it Rolling Eyes

Anyway, apart for the boot the car is really really nice. Pics below mainly boot orientated Laughing

When i was at Eastnor the other week and dealers were on a D5 test jamboree , the other cars they had there for them to compare were several Audi Qsomethings.

As in the post above I am aware that LR have done a lot launch wise with dealers and press and loads of locations both here in the UK and abroad. from what has been posted most if not all these launch events have included other marques such as Audi, Merc and Volvo.
Interestingly after speaking to a couple of people that have been on one of these launches there have been a few problems with some of the cars but it would appear after asking questions the issues were not with the D5's but all the other cars. The people have said the D5 was faultless

My thoughts exactly. I really wanted the D5 and went prepared to buy it, that was until I saw it, sat in it and realised that LR no longer wanted my custom. Big Cry

Took out a TD6 HSE Lux today .. impressed but not enough to bother to write a long list of pros and cons ...Ultimately I don't think it's for me. Taking out an FPace on Saturday to see if that cheers me up a bit....if not I'll sit on my hands until Defender Smile

I wouldn't even consider an F-Pace to be comparable option to a D5. The F-Pace is not an off-road vehicle. Best it could manage is a flat dirt road.

I am shopping for a new, diesel suv with 2 speed transfer case under $70k US. The D5 is my only option. That is a shame really.

"massive door"....an expression very read in recent times, I think the discussion on the split tailgate really made sense, clearly LR has been wrong in this, will end up having unanimity in this even in those who end up buying this car, what a missed opportunity, what a shame sincerely when it would have won in aesthetics and practicality...that ridiculous cardboard supplement to be able to sit seems to recognize it trying to solve it when it's too late!
