Give it a few months when the rush is over to get one of the 1st one's and the discounts will start to appear.
Ultimately though I think the cost to change will be too high for me for quite a while yet. If I've done my sums correctly I think at the moment I'd be in the region of a £25k to £30k cost to change like for like
Getting rid of a 18 month old D4 with 12k on the clock for that cost is not very tempting, no matter how good the D5 is!!Discovery 4 HSE

It's a nice car but not worth more per month than my current on for my uses. The D4 will stay until September, my orignal replacement date, and see if the they tweak the S Spec for 18MY.23.5MY Defender 90 X-Dynamic SE D250 MHEV Pangea Green

Yeah cancelled if it had been a FFRR, my ultimate car I may have been a bit more flexible with the budget.
Good car overall though, some negatives.23.5MY Defender 90 X-Dynamic SE D250 MHEV Pangea Green

Its a really nice motor, better quality interior and better technology BUT from my perspective its let down by the practicality. As lots of you will know, boot space is a priority for me and in short the D5's just isnt as good for my needs as the D4s. I thought looking at it a second time would be better but as soon as that massive door opened my heart sank. The sales guy saw it in my face and said "no good?" we spent 30 mins discussing and comparing to the D4 and he actually said they had recieved quite a few negatives about the boot
What exactly is the problem with the boot? Is it the size, as in too small compared to the D4, the rounded edges, or is does the 'event platform' thing simply get in the way of everything?
Looking at this photo, with it pointing up, is it always up, or flat inside the boot when not in use?
I can see this being a problem with a dog cage as the cage will I guess sit on top of the event platform, thus making it useless
Not in a position to purchase a D5, but just interested in what exactly are the 'boot problems'
Essentialy its upper height and space. I haven't measured the bottom floor space its probably on par but it suddenly starts tapering in very quickly. We have 3 dogs and its tight in the D4.

Sorry to hear you had to cancel
The whole situation is mad and unfortunately a problem in itself.
Cost to change will be a big deal for many i feel - certainly one of the many points i noticed (not that i planned to get one, i was always moving away after this d4), same spec as my last disco was £10k ish more
Ignoring bits of it which are bad - in the main, i personally dont believe its a bad car...its just not the discovery it needs to be.
A great land rover product in its own right - but then its still got the ugly design of the DS, which basically mean its a cad auto resize job.Mike

Out of interest what are people looking at as an alternative to the D4, we need a big boot and it must be good off road. We own sheep and need to tow a cattle trailer over muddy fields and rutted muddy tracks, boot needs to be big to carry hay and kit.
Only thought was to go for a 4x4 twin cab of some description
Ive been looking and test driving for the last two months. XC90 is the best from as practical point of view and offers a cabin on par with the Range Rover, better technology than all the land overs (bar offroad stuff) and the T8 has superb performance. here are my thoughts.
Current GLS has a better boot than the D5 for my needs too.MY06 S - Gone but not forgotten

All LR have to do is offer the S spec with the option of the 3.0 and the option of either xenons or the LED headlights, that alone would knock £7k of my bill, I like entry spec cars, a blank canvas add what I want and none of the stuff I don't.23.5MY Defender 90 X-Dynamic SE D250 MHEV Pangea Green

That's the crux of the problem for LR, it seems to me. They continue to trumpet their off road ability (quite rightly as it is their USP) but the designs are moving in to mainstream territory. They are charging a lot of money for stuff that others do as well (or better) in equal vehicles. If you don't need the USP bit, i.e. most owners, then why bother with LR?Visiting from rrsport.co.uk

Yep agree
I have to get across paddocks in all weather but thats it, I don't do proper off roading its nothing the other cars tested cant do with care and the right rubber. Xc90 did what i needed offroad OK, on reflection i probably didn't give it enough credit in this area as it didn't "feel" like the disco on the paddock as there was a lot of clicking and juddering which was probably the technology doing its thing and keeping me going.
Away from the off road capability the xc90 was superb, having just had a brand new FFRR Autobiography on extended tested i would say the new XC90 T8 i had was different but of equal quality and certainly had better tech plus the speed of the thing compared to the 4.0 TDV8 was oooooph ! without the ouch of the fuel bill MY06 S - Gone but not forgotten

That sucks sorry it didn't work out chap
Dealer trying to sell me one saying "we will see you right" but i don't think given they are selling so well ill get anywhere near the deal i would expect. I already had the conversation around roof bars, barrier, divider etc making it very clear they will pretty much need to give me those which has fallen on deaf ears!

I think you've missed the point I was trying to make, in the past there was nothing else to touch a Discovery for all round versatility at the price point, now there are lots of credible alternatives out there and some are a lot cheaper.
The D5 is a fabulous machine but it's not really unique any more.
In the United States there is only one option for a new diesel SUV with 2-speed transfer case for under $70k, that is the New Discovery. There was the Grand Cherokee but our EPA put a stop to the diesel last summer.

Enjoy the D4
I've been sitting on the fence for a while, mainly due to cost, I wanted an S but couldn't get the two options I wanted, so I knew the SE was pushing it a bit. I may treat the D4 in the mean time and perhaps LR may tweak the spec list for the 18MY.
I'm not disappointed just a bit annoyed I've been strung along, especially when I attempted to cancel due to cost concerns.23.5MY Defender 90 X-Dynamic SE D250 MHEV Pangea Green

All about money im afraid they all promise you blah blah from the salesmen we will look after you?
Rubbish noticed how ridgeway took over Hartwells now been swollen up by the Marshalls Group as being with Landrovers for a very long time now i am disappointed like a few on here what the Disco has evolved too, now diversified to a different type of people on the whole don't get the L/R thing is about and money no object customers who on the whole wouldn't be taking their car anywhere near OFF ROADING to them its the latest in thing L/R prices on the up .They think come rain or shine what they come up with you and i will buy it still But times are changing for me any way.
Like others have commented other manufacturers have caught up with design and in some overtaken in certain areas i myself will have a long hard look at what L/R offer when i decide to change but costs are rising so it's going to be stick or twist with L/R.
