When is new TDV6 engine due? |
|
Anyone know what the latest news/rumour is as to when the new version of the TDV6 engine is going to be available for the Disco3?, and any ideas on how it will differ from the present 2.7?

the way fuel prices are getting out of hand again I am glad mine is the 2.7.......though I'd welcome a 2nd turbo - like on the sports Jag D4 HSE....Probably, but not quite decided yet.

I might be wrong, but I think the increase from 2.7 to 3.0 is to compensate for all the extra emmission controls it will need to meet future requirements.
Not sure that it will have any noticeable power gain over the 2.7.
Like I said though, I hope I'm wrong.

I'm sure that the new engine will have more power....the current TDV6 is extremely smooth and well refined, but it definitely lacks a bit of grunt to put it on par with the BMW X5 3.0d etc....
You would think that increasing the capacity and adding a second turbo could raise the power to around 260bhp without too much trouble, but I can't see LR giving it more than 230bhp max.
If they did, then it would seriously undermine the value of the TDV8 engine in their premium brands such as the RRS and FFRR. 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE Auto Buckingham Blue

I think we will see bigger engines without power or torque gains. This will allow manufactures get the emissions down. In the Beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

Its available now I would imagine. The twin turbo Jag engine was out there before the single turbo D3 engine. In the Beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

I thought that the way to decrease CO2 emissions was to decrease the engine size ? Downsizing.
So just adding a turbo would increase the power without increasing the g/km.
This is why I don't understand why they would increase the size of the engine.
Anyway, there is still room for improvement : my X3 is delivering 286 HP for 231 g/km and my D3 was @ 190 HP for 275 g/km. My fifth Disco ...

There is a new TDV6 3.0L and a TDV8 4.4L
I was told it will be out no later than 2010 but my inside info may be wrong.

Probably going to be changed to the same unit found in the Tata Victa D1 which is a 2.9l single turbo. No doubt the 3 l twin turbo will be dumped. Dont expect too much on the power front.
