Aren't you the guy who spent all last year using all our time trying to talk up the D5? And then you are so happy with it, you dumped it for a Velar?

Most of us, were smart enough to let the market evaluate the D5 first and the feedback is in, its a Turkey.

The D5 needs some balls, it's just a sissy wagon for inner city Climate change believers.

I can't find any articles about how the D5 is smashing sales records?

Yes traded it in for a Velar because I spend 90% of the time in it on my own. And if you read my thread you’ll see I had issues with car which I shared on here. I don’t need a car with balls to be a man Wink

But it seems you can’t take light hearted banter.

J77, you are the one who "can't take light hearted banter"! Always calling obsessed (your favourite word) whoever dares to criticize the D5 in anyway.

If you "spend 90% of your time on your own", you should buy a motorbike and not a Velar!

You told Tripe to "go out more", with contempt...well, you got the answer you deserved mate!
Besides, he lives in the most notorious country in the world for outdoor living... Rolling with laughter

Not sure why you’re getting your knickers in a twist.

No offence was intended to Tripe. If it has then I’ll send him a PM and apologise. And to whoever else has taken offence.

I think at the end of the day, we all have different views for different reasons.
Some financial, some looks, some practicality. etc.etc
However CHALKY stated......

"I Hated the D3 when that first emerged"

It was the opposite for me.
I thought it was a real head turner, rough and rugged looking, with class.
I wanted one right away Thumbs Up
I can honestly say, after Seeing the 5. I don't see that, although we have to change with time, NOT this time.

Just my thoughts. Thumbs Up

D5 sales are 40,000 Velar 30,000 DSport 100,000. I wonder how many D4/5 customers have moved to DSport and Velar? Thus reducing D5 sales.
I suppose by adding more vehicles to your range the sales of some models will potentially drop.

It is becoming a bit like BMW and Audi, have so many models and options in the range that the owner will stay loyal to the brand with one of your model range.

I think the entire D5 saga can be summarized as: “I need or will need a replacement for my aging D3/D4 with similiar or better capability and had been hoping the D5 would be the answer. Unfortunately I don’t like it’s appearance and I can’t look past that despite its improvements over the D3/D4. I’m disappointed.”

That is exactly what they are trying to do IMO but they got it wrong.
Audi for example starts with a small basic cheap ish car and ends up with a large luxury car. So you can aspire to step up to the next level with plenty of variety.
Land Rover have placed most of their cars at top of the stairs all with a similar price thereby not providing the lower to middle options and they have similar cars on the same steps. So vararity = 0

Example

The MSPaint is strong in this one!

Good point though. It's all aspiration from down here in the gutter, and perspiration for the used buyers wondering if they bought somebody else's lemon. Doesn't strike me as a long term strategy - although this kind of tactical acquisition of turnover seemed to work for Carillion and Capita for quite a while Thumbs Up

Agree 100%, Not the first time for Land Rover either, that's the reason they launched Freelander 1(CB40) back in the 90's, it got bums on seats for a reasonable price.

You did not need to spend 3 hours to make your point! Rolling with laughter

I tend to agree with you that so far it is not really working very well. They should have come out with a platform at the lower end by now, somehow I do not think the new Defender is going to do it.

Sort of eggs, one and basket. I thought I read somewhere that JLR were now a luxury car maker so that would preclude an entry by a more easily affordable small car.

Slightly OT: Anyone watch Grand Tour today? They have a Velar on, JC had a bit of a veiled dig at the LR model line up and where they all sit in relation to each other.

For me it’s not the range that’s muddled it’s the pricing. We’ve got small models more expensive than the big models.

IMO it should be

Evoque £35-£45k
Velar £45-£55k
RRS £60-£75
FFRR £75- sky’s the limit

Disco ?? £20-£30k
Disco Sport £30-£40k
FF Disco £40-£55k

This is probably the most accurate ad LR has produced
