I was looking at LPG systems, an Estonian company in Tallinn (so short trip with ferry there and back) recommended when I asked for Prins systems, instead a KME 4+ with EMER Palladio evaporator and a 90-92 liter toroidal tank (720x720 mm) to replace the spare wheel. They had done D3 V8s and D4 V8s previously and had pictures of them on their site.
All installed and tested for 1680 eur including .ee VAT. I’d have to get it road approved in .fi as a bi-fuel vehicle after that, that’s 80 eur more (I think).
The government would retroactively subsidize me a maximum 1000 eur of the install cost... which would be really nice to recoup over half of the investment.
If I don’t want to carry a spare at all I’d break even with 9000 km driving.... depending on wheel carrier price and cost of install I’d break even with around 19000-22000 km driving. Besides a wheel carrier would look completely lit
I looked into all wheel carriers and posted a summary in another thread.
How much of a problem is VSR really? The Estonians didn’t seem to consider it an issue at all and said they don’t usually fit lubing systems. I originally asked for a Prins with a ValveCare system fitted.
Do you Mogwyth have an opinion? You’re the most active LPG guy here or maybe I’ve just seen a lot of posts you mentioning LPG.
Besides the obvious, saving on fuel costs as LPG is here 0.821 eur/L (95E10 is around 1.45 e/L), I’d effectively double my vehicle’s range if driving with both gas and fuel.

The car was designed for unleaded. I think to pay money to save money on alternative fuel is pointless. It's a thirsty v8. If it's too expensive buy a diesel don't convert it.05 V8 HSE Bonatti Grey

Diesel is 1.30 e/L + annual diesel tax, there are no or very little savings to be made with it

This
You only hear of VSR problems with lpg conversions.
Good lube system may negate the issue.
I think Mogwyth has a lube system - lets see what his experience is like

VSR around 60,000 miles or so is an issue according to Prins and yes I have lube system fitted.
However we had a chat about this a few day ago on another group. About 6 V8 owners all with LPG, lube fitted was split 50:50, most had 6 digit mileage and none had suffer any VSR. Now as an information analyst I should say 6 isn't a statistically significant number, however it does suggest the issue may not be as great as suggested.
Belts for mine in the next weeks got a bit a drone from the front of the engine plus MOT next month too.==================================

I brought my disco with 165k on the clock and the lpg installed 11 years ago and i brought it cheap due to suspected valve seat regression.
The heads had never been off until I took them off.
All of the exhaust valves had regressed slightly I found 1 burnt out valve. No valve saver kit fitted. So don't think it has done that bad.
It's a brc kit thats fitted. And had the tank where the spare is fitted. It's not a bad install if I'm honest. And well I filled up with gas here 34 quid and had to fill up in Belgium
So not bad on gas.
I have the pics of the engine stripped and heads off.
Was a pig of a job as I did it without taking the body off.
Was a lot more involved than I thought but sorted it in the end.
And I just don't like diesels.
They have there own issues.
Just my 2 pence worth

Oh forgot to mention I now have a valve saver kit on it.
I have the clearances on bit of paper in the glove box if I get time in the summer I will be taking the rocker covers of and check them. Worse thing I found was getting parts for it.
I never would of thought there was no hydrolic lifters. There are solid shim bucket that seemed impossible to get from anywhere other than landrover same as the valve steam oil seals and replacement exhaust valve.

Thanks Bigdave18 and Mogwyth for your input. The VSR part was particularly interesting.
Any guesstimates what kind of mpg you get using LPG? my excel model assumed it’s slightly better than the petrol consumption. I did take into account that tank can be filled to roughly 80% of volume due to potential gas expansion.
Autopsy pictures are always nice, feel free to post
