Lunch stop, D4’s first taste of gravel roads, 3km off E4 in Skuleskogen NP. I’m not sure she’s that impressed.

Right, off out to brave the horseflies and sort out scoff.
PS Lunch was cheese and chutney on rolls liberated from breakie, and a lovely pot of fresh coffee. None of yer instamuck here!! I think the coffee from the hotel was lead free (decaf) as I had to stop for a schnooze earlier on!

Oh, and the little bag of sweets that was in the room didn’t last long. I was going to take them home for SWMBO but forgot about that when I pulled the car over, got out, opened the boot and pulled them out of my bag. All without thinking. Honest dear!

I know a bit early but tucked up in the hotel, a nice cool ground floor room, top floor ones are going to be scorchio!! Early start tomorrow to get 09:00 ferry to Vaasa in Finland, luckily breakie opens at 06:30. Just hope it’s not rough tomorrow, 4 hour crossing and I don’t want to see the sausages, bacon eggs & beans, plus a couple of bowls of yogurt & fruit compote, a second time. Oh and cake, can’t forget about the cake.
Few pics from today.
Gratuitous bridge pic. Every previous time I’ve crossed this bridge in Dark Bluie there has been a contra flow for roadworks, every time in 4 previous Scandinavian Jollies, except this time. They’d either fixed it or given up!!

Now this is what I like about Swedish congestion, no delays!! The French, Belgians, Dutch and Germans should be learning a lesson from that - there shouldn’t be any delays on Road Trips.

And you know you’re getting a decent way North when you see a sign warning you about snowmobiles. That and the blue dot is level with central Iceland.

Did you do your morning run at the hotel?
I wish! In the bottom left corner, that’s where breakfast was enjoyed. Note the number of trips back & forward from the table to get stuff. They need trays!! And the wander out to the car park was to stash the rolls that were being liberated and allowed to survive, well until lunchtime.

It’s been lovely, 21 - 23c with a nice cool breeze. Last time I was driving through Umea it was a little damper.

Will do.
These Scandic hotels anticipate your every need. Just noticed they have bottle openers in the bathroom. Very handy, even if I have one on my key ring

Only down side is the cap goes flying and ends up being kicked across the floor and I end up banging my bonce on the near invisible shower screen picking it up. Deffo need a beer now.

Waiting to board ferry to Finland. She’s a cute little ferry and weather is great for a calm crossing!!

Check-in building gives D4 a chance to admire herself while she’s still clean and me a chance to check Hurdiegurdie lights are still on.

And she’s even cuter up close. Not much car/campervan traffic but lots of trucks.
PS Would be quite something to do the trip in winter!

And into the belly of the beast, well up the ramp and upper deck with some trucks.

Half an hour till off, then I Spy etc beginning with Sea for 4 hours. It saves about 250 miles and that time in wear and tear on me so worth it. I even get a decent view at the pointy end, I think the nautical types call it the bow.

Good job ive got the pad and both iPhones with me. Mind you now picking up the networks from t'other side. You gotta love mobile networks in Finland, shame 3 dont let you have 4g.
PS Bit of a weird combo, crossing the Baltic, watching the odd ship out there and listening to Walking in Memphis on the headphones.
Guessing the dotted bits are where Wi-Fi didn't connect ?
and the scenery looks bland.

The phone that's running Glympse is on cellular data at the mo, no point in having it on wifi at the same time as the pad. Where there is a solid line there is cell data reception, shows how far out in the Baltic the signal goes.
