From my memories of the war years (yes really) that is a searchlight. Air defences during the blitz on Clydeside and I am sure elsewhere had these to illuminate the bombers for the guns. Had some in my local park which overlooked the Greenock shipyards.2014 MY Discovery XS Indus Silver. Sadly gone. Second last LR of forty eight years continuous ownership.

SWMBO has told me I'm MIA. Sorry, just slogging down the E4 to Uppsala, lots of slow trucks, campers & caravans. Must be holiday season, except for truckers. Highlight has been seeing another moose.

Glad you are ok DSL. Was wondering whether the freebie night was at Bates Motel
Was thinking of getting a private plate for my car, but I'm sure we would all need the same number...

Hi dear!
Another hotel room, nice and on the ground floor and not facing the sun, bonus. Even better, this is also a feee night. I was fastidious about everything (by that I mean things bought with the €5 restaurant voucher) going via the bill, those extra few points tipped me over the points required to get this free. Happy days.
And some goose-gog sweets to take home to SWMBO, to go with the others.
HG Gold is mine and has just come out of the Engel which is running at about 0c.
Bit of a slog today, doesn’t sound a long way but lots of slow traffic and crawling through some towns/small cities. No pics en route, everything was just trees & tarmac, but might have the moose on dashcam, will have a look when I get home & bung the card in the LT.

Stocked up so well at breakie just need a light supper to keep body & soul together. Min eff = max result.
Just an observation on today’s motoring experiences. Is there a law in Sweden banning mobiles glued to the ear? I’ve never seen so many peeps with a phone in their hand since I was last in the USofA. It makes handheld phone use in the UK look like nothing.
Just an observation.
Tomorrow 285 mile haul to Gothenburg for the o/night ferry to Kiel. Nice cabin with window booked so I can watch Denmark slip past in the night. When I booked it, the ferry was about the same price cf hotels, fuel and tolls, just 388 miles less stress on me and the car. Just hope weather is calm.

The bumper on one of them is about the same weight as a Nissan Micra
I helped a friends friend who was restoring a couple, and boy are they heavy.

Here in Scandinavia summer brings out all the old American cars. Many people register them for road use for the summer months and then de-register (not sure if that’s the right term) and stop road insurance for the winter.
I attended a July 4th party a few days ago where the Finnish Hot Rod Assocation members had brought a bunch of old Buicks, Chevys, Fords and Mercurys from 50s and 60s. All were in excellent shape unlike that POS caddy in Sweden

Well, nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition
The D3 does have a rather comfy chair, doesn’t it?
I’ll get my coat.

On the road again in a bit, off to Gothenburg to catch this bad boy to Germany.

I just hope the skipper of this boat:
a) Wasn’t previously employed by a coffee chain off Italy
And
b) Will go a lot faster than the previous 2 ferry captains were willing to do!!!
Unfortunately I won’t get any benefit from the footie re traffic as I should be waiting to load by then. I might see Sweden celebrating/drowning their sorrows in massively overpriced weak beer (delete as appropriate) as we sail off. Unless I’m hauled off the boat for crimes against football as I wasn’t able to get into Russia and help/hinder England, depending on your view point.
Glympse for today, will keep it live for the crossing to see how close we get to the rocks. Did I say no ex Costa skipper please?
PS Just liberated some coffee for the drive and rolls for lunch. There’s no pastries, cake, croissants or pan au choc to free!!! C’mon Scandic, I may be paying zip for this room and breakie but you have standards to maintain!! Either that or my reputation precedes me!
And for today’s random sign: Be advised, flat cap wearing Yorkshireman around.

If you’re into Swedish candy the best place to get your fix in the U.K is probably.... IKEA.
If they managed to have licorice, Marabou chocolate and Daim in the Middle East, I imagine they’ll have it in your country as well. I’ve kind of assumed that Kraft/mondelez had managed to distribute Daim globally TBH
