The BBC were driven to this decision by your old friend and fellow tory snorter, George Osborne, so please save the crocodile tears.
People get old, who is going to pay for them, let alone the TV licence. Compulsory selling of property at 70 to pay for it all 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

Its the post 2nd WW Baby boom coming up to age 75 , and I am one of them, that is bringing the funding problem to a head and its been happening all my life. Just before I reached 65 the government scrapped the extra income tax allowance for pensioners. . I cannot understand the BBC taking on the funding , knowing full well it would become an future issue. No government will face these funding issues until its top of them

And a significant number who could claim pension credit don’t for whatever reason, probably ignorance. I’ve had a quick look at Pension Credit, not overly generous, when you’ve got a house to run, heat and food to eat, but hey who cares! Let’s hope they haven’t saved up for that funeral.

Good to see that you’re now a champion for the poorest in our society. 👍
I’m more concerned over the impact of the increase in food prices in the U.K. that we’ve seen in recent times and the the key factor causing those rises. That’s for another thread though.2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

Well it may be, but gives the appearance it isn’t. Certainly failed on the first sentence, unless we are going to argue about what’s in the public interest. Wouldn’t have thought making over 75’s pay for a licence is tbh and something a large majority of the public are against.
Er, in the vote they had, 52% were for scrapping the freebie. Visiting from rrsport.co.uk

Well in polls after they announced the decision, Joe Public must have had a change of heart. Maybe it pride after the D-Day events.

Remember that the choice was between scrapping the free licence, or introducing substantial service cuts. A slightly more honest, warts and all, presentation of choices than another recent one that I can think of.2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2

I’ve just seen the front page of The Daily Mail. Normally, it’s pretty funny but, today, they’ve excelled themselves...
Working their elderly readership up into a right tizzy, they’re quoting their readership, in their front page headline, as being ready “to go to jail, rather than pay for a licence”. What would we do without The Daily Mail?! 2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2
