Great pics as always Del (now you are off the train with grubby windows - although not sure why you didn't get SWCKVH) to go outside and clean them )
Great comment from a tourist complaining about the number of tourists Uncle Ray's spare wheel protector

You may have a point re tourist etc.
About the windows, we did try but it just made things worse. At one of the Mongolian stations, Chojr ISTR, we saw some new inmates go through the routine of spitting on tissues and stretching as high as they could. SWCKVH would have been no good as she’s a bit vertically challenged, well 3” shorter than me so that was my job.

Re spitting, wait until you’ve been in Beijing for a couple of days. I nicknamed it the catarrh capital of the world when we were there. Without being too crude, no matter where they are they fetch it up from their boots and that’s the ladies!
As to queuing, without being disrespectful, the Chinese have no concept of personal space or queuing etiquette. After a day I soon learnt that if you stand back you get swamped, so it’s all elbows and push on.
Enjoy the sights.

Spitting I can just ignore, and even SWMBO is now going native and barging through peeps that block doors etc. The one thing that’s more difficult to ignore is the smoking in the streets, it’s by far the worst place we’ve been to. It means sometimes if someone lights up, though often it’s a group lighting up together, and you are trapped behind them then your in their fag cloud until you can barge round. I thought Japan was going to be bad on last jolly but it wasn’t. In 2 months there we saw only one or two peeps puffing in public. Here it’s everywhere. Second worst place was Germany where peeps would even lean out of the train doors in stations to have a fag.
There was an old man from Darjeeling
Who travelled from London to Ealing
It said on the door,
"Please don't spit on the floor",
So he carefully spat on the ceiling.

Would work nicely for a man from Beijing, if it weren’t for the rhyming malarkie.
Back from epic day on Beijing Metro and buses to see some tomb sites to the North. Will add pics later, Happy Hour(s) are about to start and there is a beer with my name on it.

There’s supposed to be 9 million bicycles in Beijing, a few of them are here.

I’m glad we were going the other way, the masses of peeps waiting to get onto a metro train were something else.

Our train to the Great Wall (non fire version). It looked fast but reality was a bit slower. Prob put out to retirement.

And for the pics from yesterday. Just think of this as a time travelling paradox, as opposed to a metro and bus travelling paradox. Everything we’ve done so far has been on foot, rail, tram, metro or bus, the taxi touts/drivers that we encountered yesterday and today weren’t going to change that.
This was a day trip to the Sacred Way and the Bingling Tomb to the W of Beijing. 3 metro trains and two buses later we were ready to rock.
Gate house/tower.

Then back on the bus to the Bingling Tomb. Busy, but peaceful and quiet cf today.
TBC, once I can get the rest of the pics downloaded.

She’s still on Apple Music so she either won or shelled out a small fortune.

Don't think there's any danger of you running on the Great Wall, not with all those tourists there! Jeez, how many people can they fit on the Wall??
And the "leg room" pic - just another chance to show of your natty footwear?
Surprised there were no pics of relatives of SWMBO on the Sacred Way Uncle Ray's spare wheel protector

It’s limited to 65,000 per day so shade under 24,000,000 per year. Last week was Golden Week and daily limits would have been hit. Yesterday was off peak!
In train, my newer boots, the ones in the avatar were the ones I effectively wore the soles out of on last jolly.
No SWMBO’s Chinese cousins on the Sacred Way but loads around the Bingling Tomb. Seriously struggling to post anything, or pull up anything as t’internet is seriously struggling. I keep getting emails from Express VPN tempting me to upgrade, I might think about it if it worked here at all.
OK, rest of pics. Will add text as GFWoC allows.
Orchards of Persimmons just outside the walls of the tomb complex. SWMBO was not up for leaning out & grabbing one.

What all the fuss was about. The sarcophagus in the middle was one of the Empereses, note plural. I couldn’t get near the head honcho’s box as it was mobbed by tour groups.

Nothing a couple of paracetamol wouldn’t fix.

Weird crocodile type thing, nicely unrestored.

Imperial robe, not SWMBO’s Chinese cousins kept the Emperor pretty close under their claws.

And if he wandered out.

Not many ornaments on the roof bits, bit odd as this was the imperial tomb with most important dude in there so that made it an important wall!

And a last pic from yesterday. A bit S of the main wall area, near a large wall encircling an fort or something. Zoomed in pic do not that clear but shows the condition of a lot of the wall. This was just up to a tower. There are areas where the Wall is in this condition, we almost did a trip to one are but are glad we didn’t.
