Pics from today, a trip to a small group of minor temples to finish off the grand tour of Siem Reapâs gems. We are officially templed out. At least we have a vague idea what was going on here over the few centuries from 900ad onwards. As they say in Vietnam, if youâre not confused then you donât know whatâs going on.

Modern Buddhist temple on the same site, loved the bells on the roof telling us a nice cooling breeze was heading our way. It was getting a little toastie.

Weâre off on the bus to Bangkok tomorrow, only 8 hours but should be a good window on E Thailand. Then a few days of flopping in Bangkok.
And after that even more temples when we head north!!

A long day travelling from Siem Reap to Bangkok, arrived in the teeth of the rush hour and took a couple of hours to do ~6km.
Mind you, that might be because itâs really Area 51, Thai style.

Right, sorted out a couple of hundred of my fave photos from well over several hundred taken at Siem Reap. That place is mega photographic!! I know I canât post a couple of hundred but will bing up enough to give a good flavour of the variety of things here. Will do that after changing hotels today.
Meanwhile, peeps will have heard of Piltdown Man, I give you Siem Reap Man.

Absolutely fantastic sunset over one of the lakes. The guide was hoping weâd not notice as he wanted to beat the traffic back in to town but no chance, it was a stunner.

This the Black Lady temple, has a Khmer name but Iâll have to find it. Itâs blackened from air strikes to clear out the Khmer Rouge that used the temples as bases. The whole area was covered in mines, anti tank and anti peeps, and thousands were removed from this area. We were subtly warned not to go wandering off.

On the way to the next, and last temple, we had the breakdown. We were rolling again in a couple of hours but plenty of time to watch the traffic roll past. This had the Indian ladies behind us chuckling!

Plus the food vendors got to hear about the load of stranded tourists so supplies were arriving. We declined their offers as weâve seen first hand how all that scoff is treated in mid 30c temps.

This was the last temple of the 3rd day, Prasat Beng Mealea, we got to it a good bit later than was scheduled. Sun was getting low and it was really atmospheric. Forget Indiana Jones, forget Tomb Raider & Lara Croft, this was Apocolypse now just in the dry season. Absolutely fantastic.

No more tour guides and buses, on the 4th day tromping around we were on our own putting all of our new found knowledge to work. Well so we thought! Tuktuk in, PassApp worked brilliantly to get us a ride. The power of tech.
We were going to see a lot of the little bits and bobs weâd passed in the buses but never got the chance to tromp around. Our fave type of sight seeing.

If this temple looks a bit like part of a 1960s new town or not quite finished then yes, it wasnât finished as it was stuck by lightening and the king that commissioned it thought it was bad juju and lost interest.

These, getting pics in the right order permitting, weâre of a few outlying temples so it was a second day of hired car & driver. No way did we fancy going along the main Route 6 road in a tuktuk, plus a proper car isnât much more, with AC, no dust and a cooler full of bottles of water in the boot.

There are lots of inscriptions in the doorways of temples, these are from the builders saying who they were and what they did. Mixture of Khmer & Sanskrit, with Balinese thrown in. Waaaaaaaay above my pay grade to interpret.

A modern Buddhist monetary next to one of the outlier temples. Many of the old Khmer temples are use by present day Buddhists so weâre usually careful about poking our noses in and taking pics without checking they are not being used for prayers.
