And greetings from Tassie.
It’s a lot different from WA, well over 20c different, and the Romans never got this far as no long straight roads from horizon to horizon. And did I say it was freeeeeeeeeeeeezing? Today got the keys to the hire car, another Mitsu ASX, and headed towards the most southern point of Tassie. Got to within 20kms of it when the tarmac ran out and the corrugated gravel road started, turned round then. 43.44degS is as close as we got to Antarctica this time round.
Stopped for lunch just to the north of there at a beach near Southport. The water looked lovely but it was a bit nippy so just scoffed our Woolworths pizza bits and headed N again.

Now the roads down here are really, really windy (not straight rather than not blowing a hoolie) so no longer switching on cruise control and pointing the car towards the horizon. Plus max temp was 22c rather than up into the 40s, did I say I was missing WA?
Headed up Mt Wellington for views over Hobart. One thing we have noticed in Aus is that anything higher than a termite mound gets called Mount This or That Mountain, luckily for Mt Wellington it was 4,166ft high so just about qualified. Just. Plus it was 12c up there with a bit of a gale so officially parkie.
View from the way up.

It was a bit of a thin, windy and windy road (choose for yourself the order of the last two adjectives) so I had to do all the driving up & down as SWMBO doesn’t do scary roads with not a lot of wobble room and big drops.

Off tomorrow for Port Arthur, will be back in Hobart in just over a week.

Morning/afternoon/evening folks and greetings from Launceston, Tassie one rather than the Devon Cream Tea one. Been a bit of a driving few days, from Hobart down to Port Arthur area then up to Bicheno then here. Lots of twisty & turny roads, still windy but not windy.
Great views of the bays and beaches down to Port Arthur.

Warnings of Roos having a bit of a punch up with motorists.

Looks like the local gulls are picking the prime seats to watch the match.

And a rather nice tessellated pavement, brings back memories from a long time ago and a galaxy far, far away. Well a desert area of Spain.

Another cute bay.

Different bay but with some great wave action.

Bit of history, the remains of a coal mine run with convict labour at Saltwater Springs. Nice and idyllic now, not sure I’d have wanted to be there back in the day.

Said Remarkable Cave.

Did someone say cruise ship?
We were going to go to historic Port Arthur but another cruise ship was going to replace this one and almost 3,000 peeps would be going to the same place as us at the same time. No thanks.
Instead we went to the Unzoo to see the Tassie Devils and other critters.
Wild wallabies, this one with a joey in the pouch.
It was just us there at that time, no other tourists so nice just to watch her for a bit. The wallabies are wild there and can come and go as they wish. This lot didn’t appear until the peeps had departed to see the kangeroos, then popped out to hoover up.

And the much endangered Tassie Devils. Was good to see them in the flesh, and to hear about the sad battle they have with transmissible facial cancer that is 100% fatal and incurable. They must be the ultimate scavengers, if it’s dead they will eat it, right down to 20 of them reducing a whale to nothing in 5 months. They are the size & shape of an overweight cat!
They look cute cute but one bite from these chops can chop a femur in half. No cuddles for him!
And prob the best part, the Roos. Did someone say say feeding time?
Sweeeeeeeeet!
Not many pics after leaving Unzoo.
But did get a couple of pics of some echidnas we saw in the fern tree forrest the road went through. We’d seen the warning signs, now seen the hedgehog with serious schnozzes.

That should be enough for now. Wine tasting half day tomorrow so don’t expect too much sense. Business as usual then.

Tasmania looks beautiful.
Can you give more details on the funky mosaic pavement by the sea? What has been there before, I mean, why does it exist?

Bearing in mind it’s well, and I mean well after vino o’clock here, it’s cracks in the sediments after they form, they weather differently and the salt all adds to the more rapid erosion.

Greetings folks, great day tasting Tamar Valley wines. Lots of scrummy wines from half a dozen wineries, with lunch in the middle to soak up the alchofrol.
We took it easy on the purchasing, this should keep us going for few days.

Unfortunately we couldn’t justify a bottle of Winton Bay 2017 chardonnay. It was totally magical but at £40 a bottle a bit above our price ouch point. Will just have to drool at the pic. And the Leaning Church Sev Blanc was very nice, so 2 to drool over.

Oh and re lunch, just a few little nibbles.
Though not all for me but even better with hot toast.

Now setttled in watching NCIS drinking the Pig & d’Hound Muscat while scoffing chocolate fudge. Living the dream.
