Reports yesterday that the Ambassador, Sir Laurie Bristow, had stayed at the airport to continue processing visas for Afghan interpreters and their families.I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

IMHO, the Afghan interpreters and their families should have been out of the country way before now.Visiting from rrsport.co.uk

The situation is getting insane at Kabul airport. People trying to jump on a moving plane as it taxis out.
How full was that C-17? I seem to remember El Al getting 1,200 people on a single 747 when they needed to.

In terms of weight lifting, the C17 has a payload of something like 77 tonnes. So call it 1000 Afghanis (assuming they're not like typical fat westerners ). No need to worry about people falling over as they'd be stood cheek-by-jowl like rush hour on the tube!
I doubt the military would want to do that with their aircraft, however.Visiting from rrsport.co.uk

Imran Khan reckons the Afghanis have broken the shackles of slavery. I bet many of the people on the streets won't see it that way as they are forced back to the Middle Ages. I suppose Khan is making comments that appeal to his own people in order for him to stay in power, but it still sounds crass.Visiting from rrsport.co.uk

The Taliban will next look to Pakistan. A lot of their ideology is entrenched in areas near the border anyway.
And then they will try to kick out the Chinese upgrading road/rail between Pakistand/China.

China is talking to the Taliban. They will buy favoured status to ensure they can have some say in what happens in the region.Visiting from rrsport.co.uk

The west runs away with its tail between its legs whilst the Chinese, Russians and Iranians stand by ready to step in.
China is spreading itself globally. I was Antigua quarantining recently and couldn't help notice the size of the new Chinese embassy, the plot for embassy staff accomodation and the amount of Chinese construction sites on the island.
I'm amazed China hasn't offered to rebuild Lebanon and build its self a nice navel port in the Mediterranean.
We can beat ourselves up, wear hair shirts and protest to the UN but we are powerless to stand up to China.New Defender L663 110 SE (known as Noddy!)

In fairness to China, there are 1.4bn of them equivalent to 18-19% of the world population. It doesn't seem unreasonable for them to have a say in stuff. Other than India, no one is close. Why should the EU (445m), US (330m) or the UK (68m) have more say than the Chinese?
The period of the world being run by the West is over (or at least it is fast approaching). We may not like what we think the Chinese want, but there's precious little that can be done about it.Visiting from rrsport.co.uk

I suppose in "normal" times, Govts would charter airlines to ferry people out, but as so many airline aircraft are sat on the ground with no crew to fly them, that would be difficult at the moment.Visiting from rrsport.co.uk
