Hi All,

Final update from my installation and Review of the Aluminium intake manifolds.

After running them for over 3 weeks now I am still very impressed and dare I say it's given me a little bit more confidence and peace of mind with the beast. And the bonus being that this should be a permanent fix, rather then manifolds which expire and crack after 5 years.

I'm not an expert mechanic however do have reasonable experience with LR products and managed to install these over the space of a few weekends taking my time for a few hours each day. If I were to install them on another disco I could probably do it in 8 hours flat with a few breaks. Nothing particuarly difficult to take apart, everything only really goes back in once place. Just try to keep all high pressure diesel lines, fuel rails and injectors as clean as possible. Put them straight in a ziplock bag etc.

Everything went quite smoothly, however i'd imagine hurdles could be if you had a stuck injector (especially if it was one towards the rear of the engine) as you start running out of room to get pullers/slide hammers on. Thankfully all mine came out quite easily. As another user has mentioned here they have been finding it quite hard to remove the fuel rail due to the EGR's top coolant flange being in the way of the fuel rail bolt. On the RHS I had to slacken off the EGR (3x 8mm bolts) to just get a bit of movement on the egr to squeeze a socket onto the fuel rail bolt.

My friends disco 4 is coming up to 10 years old. He already has had the manifolds replaced with new OEM around 4 years ago but he has asked me to replace them with these as he is already worried about them failing again. Another project added to this winters list Smile

A few words regarding the eBay seller: Very fast responses, gave a bit of discount and manifolds arrived very quickly and very well packaged with plenty of foam padding.
Speaking to the seller again about ordering more manifolds for my friends disco 4 and he has warned that he is struggling to get hold of them from his supplier at the moment. They are on backorder until March at the earliest so I may stock up a couple sets before he runs out!

P.s. NC500 I'll get a parts list for the remote oil pressure sensor to you Smile

Look forward to the parts list!!

Mine are back from Zircotec - now coated in a ceramic paint with heat protection of 925c - think that should be sufficient!

Looking forward to having them fitted in January.

They do look very neat! Will you be leaving the acoustic covers off?

Yes, I never had them fitted anyway - I figured anything I could do to help heat dispersal would prolong the life of the plastic intakes. After 10 years and 160k on the originals I guess my theory wasn’t madness

Seems very logical to keep them off.

I was never sure if they were for noise reduction or for heat insulation for those who have -20 degree winters.

Either way - plastic manifolds on this engine is just madness and a cost factor must have been involved when they decided to go plastic.
Lots of heat cycles. Two turbo's etc. It seems the designers of the engine did not have longevity or reliability in mind after the warranty period.

Looks like the sellers original listing has sold out!

Maybe we will see more reviews and awareness might spread around. I also think people want to see logevity tests on the alloy ones but obviously that will take time.

NC500 any news on when you are installing yours?

It'll be very interesting to follow these and see how they do in the long run. Even if they are made of chineseium they'll probably last longer than LR's original ones.

Been running mine over 3 months now. Thrilled to bits and would highly recommend to anyone needing replacement intake manifolds. As NC500 has said, they are decent thickness all over and I do believe that they will standup to the heat cycles and age much better than the plastic ones!

Btw NC500 I love the coating you have put on they look really smart!

Updated eBay link from the same seller I got mine from. Highly recommend this seller as it was despatched quickly and very well packaged. Seller is also quick to respond to any questions too:

As discussed earlier in the thread I’d much prefer buying from the UK being protected by our consumer laws etc. extra protection if using PayPal too. Anything being imported will have extra tax piled on too.

I'd be very interested in a set of these next time they are available for sale — noticed that the eBay seller is just down the road from me too!

In my search I also found these but I suspect we'd struggle to get hold of them over here.

Looks like they are back in stock from the original seller. Also looks like they now include the copper washers for the injectors

I may raid my car's rainy day fund then seeing as I've got one intake already gone with a plastic repair that doesn't seem to be completely holding.

I assume the workshop manual that's floating around covers the procedure?
