No they get a margin to work with up front, if they achieve standards of sales, customer care and some other bits they get another chunk. In addition to this there are incentives if they use LR finance or they are trading in a D2 to buy a D3. But to trade on a bonus you might not get does seem strange at this time of the quarter, end of March maybe. If I were managing a sales force I wouldn't want my chaps selling at a loss on the back of a bonus I might not recieve. DS3 TDV6 HSE - Silver with Alpaca (old one) Gone

I thought the reason why the end of the quarter was so important was that if the dealer needed to sell say 20 D3's to meet a target, but had only sold 19, then if they knew of a buyer who would pay X amount below list, the target could be met.
Isn't this why with many marques, dealers do (or used to anyway) register cars, then sell them later at a discount as they are pre-registered?
I was also led to believe, that the total margin on D3 's was 12% or 13%, can't remember which.
If this is the case then I suppose there isn't a risk, as the worse scenario is that they have sold a car & only made a few quid.
Regardless, there are dealers prepared to sell D3's at heavily discounted prices & I can't believe they do so out of the kindness of their hearts!
P.S Pelyma, O/T but hopefully we'll meet one day at a D3 event & we can talk "Whippets".

LT the margin I believe is a bit smaller than you mention and split across the 2 deals, ie up front and behind. I can see deals as you say at the last knocking, particularly on hard to shift models, but not at the beginning of the quarter. It doesn't seem a sensible business model to me, but I'm a financial adviser!!!
We occasionally go down west with the dogs, my wife shows and I flush hares I am also involved with the BSFA who run the lure coursing at the SW whippet fun day. If you get the biennial we are Pelyma whippets. DS3 TDV6 HSE - Silver with Alpaca (old one) Gone

Someone at L/R told me that the margin, which is split as you describe, is 12 or 13%. Could be that there are different deals for dealers. Perhaps the Inchscape (Hunters) type dealers have a different deal from the few Independents?
Anyhow, getting an 06 reg HSE for circa.£38k in early April seems to be on!
(fingers firmly crossed)
Pelyma, bizarrely I'm an IFA, own a Whippet, enjoy fishing & other Field Sports. Early today ,I emailed the BSFA to enquire about Lure Coursing. Small world eh! I'd like to chat with you sometime about coursing etc.

Don't take me wrong, I normally buy my cars from Europe as you get a better deal, but in this case the HSE from the continent is not the same as the one UK specs (no Logic 7, no premium sat nav, manual, etc). I am sure there are people who couldn't care less about some of this differences and get them at 3K less than Uk. hi all myu hse come from dealer in bolton who brings them in from gibralter full spec logic 7 premium sat nav and manuals full uk spec and saved 4000.00

We went to our dealer this morning to get our part ex re valued again and to sort out the documentation, Ins etc in order to take delivery on 1st March as planned.
However it didnt turn out the way we anticipated early this morning.
The dealer has basically gone back on the deal that we had and the net result is that we need to find a further £1800.
To say that we are p****d off is an understatement.
We are so dissappointed as we ordered this vehicle on 15th Dec and to now be treated this way is disgraceful.
Im now trying to sort out another deal and we are back to square one (once we get our deposit back).
Im lost for words at this moment in time!!!!!!!

Which dealer was that? I'm looking to do the same thing and don't want to end up in the same situation.

I certainly will after tomorrow.
I phoned them this evening and told them that i had been offered one at My original price and now they are going to try and match it. I will get a reply tomorrow morning but to be honest, i dont really want to give them my hard earned cash.

Well we are feeling much better today. All good things happen for a reason eh?
In a nutshell, after talking several times to our original dealer and a couple of others we have managed to save over a £1000 on the original deal that we had back in December.
It would appear that we have hit lucky and this particular dealer 'needed' our business today by closing time and as a result we have obtained a deal far in excess of what we could ever imagined. This was partly obtained by the assistance of this website and what we have read.
We will be signing the forms tomorrow although we have paid our deposit today and will get delivery of our car 2nd week in March.
I cannot tell you how happy we are and a total contrast from yesterday. In fact, i know that the dealer is now taking a loss on the car and our part ex has shot through the roof.
From our past experience, iam remaining cautious but the full details will come out once we have our hands on the car.
It just goes to show, keep going and you will find that elusive deal.
