Just got my car back from having a 45,000 mile service. It has had the latest software installed. The auto gearbox now changes up before I feel it should, I presume that the memory in the box has been wiped and it will adapt to my style of driving again in time. Also the steering seems heaver at slow speeds. I will check on the points above later today to see what else has been done.

Bet the mechanics took it out for a jolly good thrashing, I mean testing Wink which would remove your driving pattern from the memory.
I have seen the way they 'test' them locally, you can always hear the stereos as they go by too, I think the mechanics must be hard of hearing Wink

Funny you should say about the heavier steering as my late Jan 06 replacement has much heavier steering than the Sept 05 old one.
I like the feel of the new one much better.

Andrew - I noticed your steering is far better weighted than mine is - feels far more solid - not sure if this was pre or post your service... if you find out what they did let me know and I'll ask Shukers to look into it.

cheers

Could it be just a software thing?
The other D3's I have driven were all very light but the new one feels great.

WDS 13 patch 2 fixes a certain engine problem, not sure what for the moment.

With regard to the instrument pack module upgrade, this doesnt need to be installed ! so you can have the other fixes w/o having the 'i' amd loosing your pre-heater - tell the garage what you want.

I have often had a 'different' shift pattern after the car has been into the garage and have always thought it was the mechanic driving hard or loss of memory, just as happens with my phone numbers !

Hi guys, I'm over from the RRS.co.uk and have just got my TDv6 Sport back from having an ECU reprogramme during the last week after having to call out LR Assistance because of repeated Engine System Faults on the info display.

Upshot is that since getting the car back on Friday it is like I have a new engine in the car................ it wasn't a noisey car in the least before the brain transplant, but now it is way smoother and quieter, it pulls more cleanly from low revs, gear changes are imperseptable other than by watching the tacho and the fuel consumption is noticably better too. It's so good that it's almost as if the dealer might have done one of TC's remaps while it was away!

Patch 3....

"Patch Content
Below is a list of the content included in this Patch File.
- On Land Rover Discovery 3/LR3 the diagnostics for the DTC's P1070 and P1073 is over
sensitive. After an over run, the system reads excessive oxygen when the throttle is
opened. P1070 and P1073 will be set when driving is light and steady.
New calibration software prevents the above from occurring.
- On Land Rover Discovery 3/LR3, Range Rover Sport and New Range Rover there may be
reduced engine performance and 'engine system fault' displayed. This may cause the MIL
to illuminate. DTC P0483 is stored. The engine management ECU reduces power, as it
believes the engine fan is not in control and may over speed.
New software modifies the 'engine speed to fan speed' limit.
- On Land Rover Discovery 3/LR3, Range Rover Sport and New Range Rover, the
diagnostics for DTC's P1033 and P0153 is over sensitive. This may cause MIL illumination
with no driveability issues. Engine exhaust gas variation at idle causes sensor instability.
New calibration software modifies the DTC diagnostics at idle to overcome this issue.
- On Land Rover Discovery 3/LR3, Range Rover Sport and New Range Rover, the
diagnostics for DTC's P0137 and P0157 is over sensitive. This may cause MIL illumination
with no driveability issues. Post CAT gas variation at idle causes sensor instability.
New calibration software modifies the DTC diagnostics to overcome this issue."
