Hi all,
We have been invited by the forum to offer any help and advise we can on oil etc.
If you have any questions on the oily stuff please post them here and we will do our best to help.
If you would like a recommendation for your vehicle please add the following info.

...and advise us if this whole fluid/lubricant degredation thing could be a likely cause of the issues on my 74k mile 05 ???
I'm willing to give the Tranny a flush and re-fill to see if it does the trick!!!
Thoughts and costs??
Thanks!

What is your opinion on the following
Land Rover recomends 5w30 B1/B3
Isn´t B1 bad for engine life due to the low HTHS value
especialy on an low RPM torquey engine like the tdv6
Is it better to use B3 or B4
What is your opinion on 5w40 B3 B4, is this not technicaly the best solution for our TDV6?05 TDV6 HSE AUTO 7seats, tonga green/alpaca, alpine roof, privacy glass, tow kit, wood kit, 20" stormers n summer, 18" in winter, fancy exhausts, rear seat ent., club fooked turbo!
RANGE ROVER 1995 SOFTDASH (sold)
RANGE ROVER 1997 P38 (sold)

11 litres please
Guy,
As Character says - I'd be interested in 11 litres of ATF for my 05!

So would we but not being a Shell distributor, they do not want to let us have it. I'm guessing that the Dealer is the only port of call for the ATF
The only info I can find is
ATF, M-1375.4
Special ATF for ZF 6HP-26 automatic gearbox.
Not sure we can help on this one but we'll keep digging.
What is curious is our local LR dealer is all Castrol so I wonder what they use?
Cheers
Simon

5w-30 should be fine, B3 or B5 would be better than B1.
Summary of specs here:
The new ACEA classifications came into force in 1996 and are revised on a routine basis. As a result, specifications can have revision and issue suffixes (e.g. ACEA A2-96, Issue 3; ACEA B4-02) but for reasons of clarity, these have been omitted below.
Gasoline (Gasoline Engines) engines Valid until 2004
A1
Category for low-viscosity engine oils with particularly low High Temperature High Shear viscosity (<3>2.9 mPas.
C2
Same as C1 but with somewhat higher SAPS content permissible (as with C3).
C3
Same as C2 except for HTHS > 3.5 and without Fuel Economy performance.
C4
In preparation. SAPS content as C3, HTHS viscosity as C1.
Cheers

Hi
That isn't a monograde engine oil as it's a 0w when cold and a SAE40 when hot. A monograde 40 would be a SAE40 when hot and cold, but as the hot and cold viscosities are measured on different scales, the oil is still thinner when hot.
