Hi,
New to forum. Handbrake has given up the ghost. Will not release with any method. Need expert help. I believe you have a guy on this forum called 10forcash who may be willing. As new member I am unable to PM. Or anyone in my local area. Need urgent assistance.

Hi Keith,
There is a manual Release under the cover by the EPB Lever.
Apparently you have to be very Vigorous with it ( to the point of tearing it out )

Hi Richard,
Have tried that with screwdriver through loop but to no avail. Not even budging. Will get underneath and attempt to disconnect somehow when finished work. Would appreciate any advice in that direction.

Just to add some more info, the h/b motor runs so what ever connects it to the screw to turn it is the issue. I am presuming that this would be the actuator. Knowing my luck it will be one sealed unit that costs an arm and a leg and lotsof swearing to fit. Again, any advice would be very appreciated.

Keith,
The emergency release is REALLY tough and requires mega amounts to shift it. That's still your best way of getting it freed up.
I suggest you have another go and make sure you either have 3 weetabix or stock up on spinach beforehand.

Hi Maplecottage,
I am big fat b'stard of 19st over 6ft and I pulled like horse. The cable extended to about a foot out of the console. Am I still not giving it my all, better technique or do I need more weight?

I don't want to be the bearer of bad news but if the EPB shoes have become jammed against the drum for whatever reason (delaminating etc) then no amount of yanking on the cable release is going to work. I had to have mine flat bedded (well actually they used a dolly on the rear wheels as I didnt want them dragging it up the ramp onto the recovery truck) to the workshop to get the drums off to find the shoe(s) material had come off and wedged itself good and proper....

Hi Guys,
Have been under car and removed module cover. All clean. Seems to be in the off position as there is plenty of thread on the nearside of the box and about an inch, inch and a half on the offside, the other side of the white plastic housing. No matter what I do with the switch, the motor runs but there seems no change inside the module. I have tried the emergency brake a few times and get nothing. There is about a foot of cable coming out of the console so I am of the mind that it isn't connected. I can just about move the truck on low range in a bid to loosen the shoes but no dice there. Would I be correct in thinking that the gears that move the rod have sheared and that I am going to take a £600 hit? Should I cut the brake cables and get it to an indy? Or should I attempt to fit a new one myself?
Any help appreciated.

Checked thru Bodsys Bible. Can't turn hub to get to wind off shoes. Where can you shut off the module? Do I just pull the fuse?

Yes - pull the fuse to cut off the 12v supply to the epb.
If you have got the actuator cover off, you should (may) be able to use an open ended spanner to turn the shaft and release the tension.

Hey All.
I'm a new D3 owner after 12 years of owning my Mk1 Disco, which I miss very much.
Bought it from a dealer in Essex who just deals in LR's and had the thing a week and the handbrake has stopped working and the yellow light is on constant and the red flashes next to it with a Parking brake fault message in the display.
Up till tonight it has been working fine. Holding the vast weight of the car on steep roads no sweat and coming off when the switch pressed down and brake applied or when I touch the throttle in drive to go.
I haven't had any of the nasty noises from the back when it was operating like I keep reading about.
Its just stopped working.
Could it be the EPB switch itself maybe?. I'll check the fuses tomorrow. There must be one for it.
The parking brake isn't currently on, thank gord, so I can still drive it fine with the blinking warning lights going.
Would it be worth pulling the release cable under the cover by the switch to see if that resets anything?
I would be happy to hear back with any ideas
I'm quite confident with the spanners so if I gotta get under the beast then so be it hehe:-).
I look forward to hearing from you with a cure, hopefully
