Handbrake stuck on today but I was able to un-stick it with a few revs in reverse
Cleaned car before hand so hoping this had something to do with brakes sticking otherwise I'm holding my breathe this isnt the start of a problem !

I have the squeeling followed by fault lights intermittantly. sometimes its fine others it whails like a suffering cat. it always resets after tuning off the engine removing the key etc.

do the shoes just need a scrub? does this have to be a dealer repair? i hate this EPB!! i've already taken to just leaving it in gear when i park and leaving the EPB off

this has now appeared to have cured itself, been behaving all week. may get it in to have them cleaned anyway as a precaution

Here's another one to add to the list.

Got all the squealing sounds and then no EPB, have since manually released it.

Guess this is just a landrover thing.

Seems to be a major problem after reading this lot on here

Being told it's the Module.

Is this right ?

Sad Sad

I contacted 10forcash about my EPB told me it just needed a strip down clean and adjust.

10forcash came to me did the above and now working sweetly again.

Exellent job at a good price also blanked off my EGR valves whilst he was there as car was running a little rough.

All running well now.

Big thanks to 10forcash

Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Hi

Just thought I 'd add to the post my 06 plate D3 is currently at a specialists with the EPB failed , but fortunately in the off position, currently gritting my teeth as to how much it will cost!!

Don't worry, not too expensive a job if your brake system still good. I took mine to the dealer today, they cured the problem by adjusting the handbrake cable and cleaning it a bit. Now is nice and QUIET.

EPB Failed

Another report of an EPB failure. My 08 GS started screaming intermitantly when the park brake was applied last week and then just locked on solid over the bank holiday weekend with flashing lights etc. Car would not budge but I managed to activate the manual release and get moving again, with flashing lights and no park brake though.

So, called Land Rover assist who sent a Land Rover technician out immediatly but could not get the thing working so off to the dealers it went. I received a Freelander 2 HSE as a replacement the next day which saw me through the weekend. Dealer called today and car has now been fixed, they replaced the EPB actuator apparently as this had failed. All done under Warranty, no quibble at all and absolutly no cost to me. Lets hope the new actuator will last a bit longer than the olde one...

To be fair this has been the only issue with what has been my best Land Rover so far (fourth) and I must say I was very impressed with the service I got from Land Rover Assist and from my local dealer (Droitwich Land Rover).

Glad I've got the Disco back as the Freelander 2 was OK but...

Out of interest my Diisco 3 (2005) has recently suffered from screaming handbrake syndrome. The first I knew about it was when I got a tremendous wheel wobble on the motorway followed by a burning smell. Once stopped and the handbrake automatically applied I got the dreaded graunching noise.

I now take my car to a friend who's serviced / MOT'd all our vehciles for years but not the Disco (until the warranty ran out).
He said it was the lining that had come adrift from the pad and was jamming hte mechanism. This has now happened twice. He hasn't charged me for it and says its an issue with faulty pads that the main dealer is well aware of.

APB noise

After dismantling the rear wheel brake assemblies my local engineer found that the EPB drum brake shoes had departed from the backing plates. This had allowed the electronically activated actuator mechanism to travel beyond the end limit on the slider. Thus producing graunching noise as the actuator sought to achieve the required pressure to apply the nonexistent brake shoes on the drum face.

After a bill of nearly £500.00 for labour and bits including two new discs which had fractured all was sorted.

Personally I prefer aircraft, at least you know when you start it is going to be hideously expensive.

Anyway, hunting starts again soon so my Disco will come into its own pulling the horse trailer up and down the country.

Tally Ho!

I am 6 weeks into a post-mortem on my EPB (replaced under Warranty Direct warranty after a fight) and my report is presented in this thread

http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic50875.html

In summary it describes woeful design failures in the EPB module, and a possible cheap I mean LOW COST) repair solution still in the design process.

It also proves that a screaming EPB WILL fail catastrophically and probably soon.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news...

Andrew

PS if the thread is too long to read, the report is http://www.disco3.co.uk/gallery/albums/use...report.doc
2006 D3 finally swapped for a 2016 D4 Graphite in Graphite grey. No mods
