Stratstones investigated but couldn't find the source of the leak. They gave me a courtesy Freelander 2 today and will keep my car until Friday whilst they try to find the leak. Am looking forward to trying out the Freelander. Have tried the old model and wasn't impressed but this one is apparently much better! Now an ex-D3 owner after 7 happy years. Noticed a small amount of water on the rear load space cover the other day after some rain but couldn't make out where it had come from. Yesterday evening, after an afternoon of rain, another puddle appeared but this time I discovered water dripping from the rear interior light - the one immediately in front of the tailgate. The light lens was full of water too. This light sits directly below the sat nav/phone aerial so was wondering if this had somehow sprung a leak.
Had this before, don't have the rear roof arial, but do have a blanking plate.
That's where it'll be coming from....... always on the road less travelled 🚧

I know this is an old thread but thought i would add my penneth having just taken my 06 D3 back to the dealer for the same water leak problem.
They had it just 20 minutes and knew what the problem was. Apparently the pre 07 models have valves on the ends of the sunroof drain pipes and these become blocked, so the dealer mechanic just snips them off - problem solved! Thankfully all under warranty too
Does anyone know where these hose ends/valves are/ I feel a pre-emptive snip or two coming on.... Cheers

Seems like the cause of my leak was the blanking plate that covers the hole where the sat nav arial goes. Pillings in Welwyn had the car for two days as they needed to take out the roof lining to fix but touch wood all should be well.
The leak has now been fixed under warranty. I was told it was coming from the roof aerial. The rear sunblinds over the panoramic roof thingy won't stay shut now so I'm wondering if the guy who did the job has managed to lose something from the catch mechanisms if he took the roof lining out to do the job. Not convinced he did though as the only dirty fingerprints I can see are on the small piece of lining at the rear, imeediately below the aerial. Could also have been the kids messing with the blinds. Does any one know how the sunblind catches work?
The Freelander 2 courtesy car they loaned me was very good - a vast improvement over the old one. Wonder if it will be any more reliable though! Might think about getting one when the time comes to downsize! Now an ex-D3 owner after 7 happy years. Miss the car but not the big bills

Checked after the heavy rain this weekend only to find the water has returned - not much but enough. Have dried it out and will keep a further eye on it just in case this water has been dispalced since the leak was 'fixed'.....

Just looked at the link and you could be right - certainly the symptoms are the same - will have a go at the weekend.

Just joined the forum...
I have a Y reg petrol Freelander with a serious-ish water leak somewhere around the rear roof area. Has anyone definitively found the cause of such leaks? It gets in above the roof lining because I can see it running out at the back of the car in front of the rear door when I'm driving after heavy rain. The car has roof bars but no sunroof or GPS aerial, just the regular radio aerial at the front.
Helpful suggestions would be gratefully appreciated.
Thanks.

Roof bar mounts? The D2s could leak around them if the foam seal went.2020 SDV6 D5 HSE, Carpathian Grey +

Hmmm... did wonder about the roof bar mounts. Do you know what's involved in checking this? Is it a case of removing the entire roof lining?

On the D2, I *think* IIRC you could just lower the headlining at those points...2020 SDV6 D5 HSE, Carpathian Grey +

Just a little update - just bought my 05 from the dealer. It spent most of its life in Southern California, i.e., no rain, and in a garage. Our first really hard steady rain after purchasing it had water lightly dripping from the dome light. Took it by the dealer and they snipped the valves at the tube ends off under warranty and all is well even in our heavy rains.
Funny it made it 3 years through dealer service and never had this fixed!!'05 LR3 (Disco III) Trail, 5 Passenger V8 petrol, LHD, ARB Bull Bar, Warn XD9000 Winch
