What is your MPG?

It is really bothering me how comes some of the cars get to 30 or even over 30mpg and some other don't even get to 20mpg. There should be something that all this cars have in common. We all know that the manual behaves better than the auto, but there is a wide range of values even for the auto boxes. I would appreciate if you could put in your mpg adding the kind of transmssion and any other problems that you might think are related to your low(or high!) mpg (ie faulty turbo, low tyre pressure, driving style, etc). Thanks

Got 27.0 mpg with roofrack on and an outside temp of 10 degrees or above on a run back from Exmoor, the trip down with the same kit but via Sherborne to pick up 2BB gave me 23 mpg ....but it was a lot colder 3-5 degrees IIRC
<edited to add> now got over 8000 miles, MPG has steadily increased, more month by month than weekly, winter diesel will also have an effect along with the FBH

Best I've had is 25.5 MPG. Engine still tight and I'm hoping for an improvement as time goes by. 30 MPG would be really nice. Confused

I managed to get 26.9 on a trip to and from Norfolk last week and the temperature was between 4 and 6 degrees C most of the time. I've not quite done 4000 miles since new yet so I'm hoping the mpg will improve a bit more yet.

Average 27 -28 auto with 26K miles. Town driving kills the mpg though. If I drive around towns I would reckon on 21. High speed driving 24mpg. HTH Oh & don't forget some cars might be chipped - mine isn't Crying or Very sad

Got 29.9 mpg on the last fill up on the computer
Trip was just over 521 miles - put in 82 litres so the actual mpg was 28.9 mpg

Manual with a mix of motorways B roads and a few short runs

What is the longest trip anyone has managed?

Can achieve 31/32 plus on long steady speed runs. 25 in the city.

The critical thing is your driving style and also your driving routes.

The engine will give good MPG on steady revs / speed over a long period. ie cruising. Says so in the literature.

I can regularly get 530 miles out of a tank of Esso, BP etc standard diesel. And thats 30 mins B roads, 1.5 hrs M40 and then god knows how many hours Wink dragging into the West End of London.

580 on long runs with BP Ultimate, sometimes tipping the 600 mark if you add ODO Trip to the Range at the end of the cruise across the UK - France would be better of course as roads clearer and far smoother !

If you have not yet, get out of town. Fill up. Zero Trip. Cruise at least 1.5 hrs up the motorway. You mat even find you start to like the greenery too Wink

cheers

-s

How much does 'running in' affect fuel consumption these days ? Is there such a thing as 'running in' now. I have just been careful with the gas so far - but need to open her up soon, dealer did not give me any guidelines for a break in period. Any help guys ?

the engines are 'bedded in' at the factory, kept mine below 3000 (ish) for 1k miles, check your oil and all should be fine, bear in mind that the Disco 3 is sold to places like Dubai and Finland so good old GB isn't really a challenge Wink

I am currently getting 32 mpg on the longer runs (motorway & A roads), with 28 mpg combined, which I suppose is consistant with LR claims. I have Auto transmission and my total mileage is just 500, so in theory it should even get better. Mind you as it is a new car I am keeping my foot off the gas.

Got 28 MPG in my D3 auto driving back through France last year with 6 adults on board, all of their luggage and a top box on the roof.

Kept the speed to French motorway speed limits (120/130 kph).

Car now has 6500 miles on the clock and around town (South London 2nd gear mainly) I get about 18-20 mpg.

My wife has an MGTF and she gets 40+ mpg on a run and about 27 around town.

So comparing the large car with the little about 25% less economy on the D3. Both fun motors in their own ways!!!!

So don't count the cost, count the fun and enjoyment of driving the best 4X4 by far (who said that??!!). Laughing
