LRA, Enterprise & Guy Salmon Thames Ditton
Further to my well documented 'battery' light issue at Hogmoor on Sunday, I can happily report that the motor is back in my possession with a brand spanking new alternator, full valet, a happy smile and a tin of boiled sweets to boot.
What a truly painless exercise.
Sunday 30th Aug - Hogmoor, Hampshire
16.02 - Called LRA to report issue
16.32 - LRA calls to confirm tech attendance
16.42 - LRA tech call to discuss issue - decided it could not resolve at roadside as suspect alternator.
16.52 - LRA call to say recovery truck on the way
17.25 - Loaded onto recovery truck
18.30 - Arrive home
Monday 31st Aug (Bank Holiday)
Cleaned motor for 4 hours
Tuesday 1st Sept
10.38 - called LRA to ask for motor to be recovered to GSTD and arrange replacement vehicle
10.49 - LRA confirmed recovery and arrangement with Enterprise
10.51 - Enterprise call from Epsom to say a vehicle would be delivered in about an hour.
11.45 - Vehicle recovered by AA Recovery
11.55 - Enterprise turn up with an 09MY D3 SE in Grey (but cream interior - yuk )
Wednesday 2nd Sept
14.38 - GSTD call to say my motor is ready
16.12 - I arrive at GSTD, call Enterprise to notify of SE drop-off - I collect a complimentary tin of dusted boiled sweets from reception ...mmmmm.
16.15 - Kayleigh ( 8) ) drops my motor off at the reception door - Kayleigh said "There you go Mr G, all done, new alternator fitted for you under warranty - the technician said he hadn't seen so much mud in a radiator before" I thank Kayliegh for her fantastic service ..as always
16.17 - Tech is driving another D3 past me as I went to drive away ...he dropped the window and with the widest grin of a Cheshire cat said " You been in a bit of mud with that haven't you " and drove off with a big thumbs-up.
16.30 - I arrive home.
All in all I don't think that anyone can really fault that....can they 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

Why is it that some people get an LR from enterprise and some unlucky people (like me) seem to get a 2.0 class car like a Insigna ? Point blank refused a LR from enterprise in the past.SOLD - 23my Range Rover Sport D300 Dynamic SE

I think its purely down to logistics ...there are over 30 Enterprise locations within 20 miles of my area...so if one branch doesn't have one then they source an appropriate motor and send a lackey out to pick it up. 8) I don't think I've ever had less that a D3 off them.
Cumbria on the other hand has 2 Enterprise locations 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

I've had real hassle in the past with enterprise in aberdeen in the past they don't keep sufficient stock of land rovers on the fleet for the local requirement ....lots of land rovers therefore lots of assistance required.Visiting from rrsport.co.uk

Did the alternator fail because it was filled with mud and if so, will you have to pay for it or will the alternator manufacturer have to replace it for free as a failed unit?

The alternator failed ...no report from the service dept of contamination of the unit by mud or sand ...but it would be difficult to imagine otherwise after the trip to Hogmoor. The vehicle was, however, subjected to similar conditions that 25 other D3's were and I guess it would be very difficult to argue misuse in that circumstance. To that end, all works were carried out under warranty without question.21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

Why does this you off Ken ? The subject of it being taken off-road was never raised by my dealer other than perhaps some excitement to find one that had GSTD don't see very many that get 'used' properly. 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021
