Is having 3 Land Rovers in one day greedy?
10am .... My D4 is dead! LR Assistance diagnose an electrical fault & suggest dealer input.
12pm .... Enterprise Rental Car pick me up from the dealer & loan me a 2012 D4 SDV6 HSE ...... VERY NICE
5pm .... PUNCTURE! ..... where is the locking wheel nut? After much searching it appears to be missing, Enterprise apologise. (They also apologise for the Houmous that expired in May that I found under the seat during the search for the nut!).
6pm .... A 2011 Freelander 2 HSE is delivered & the D4 awaits recovery.
What a day, I should have stayed in bed.Nick
2010 D4 ....... now gone and replaced with a 05RRV Autobiography

Apparently the 'instrument pack' is knackered ..... it deals with a lot of the cars security systems I'm told. Looks like I've got the Freelander for a few days yet.
Got a quote from Frogs Island 4x4 for the remaining mods, hopefully they'll going on as soon as it comes back from Stratstones.
Land Rover Assistance were excellent, I'll miss them when the warranty runs out.Nick

A bit muddy in places today but on the whole not too bad although we did have one section where we had to tow/waffle board/manhandle 18 cars through, bloody knackered now Cheers Ian

Drove the New D4 Home
Drove my new D4 home from the Dealer. Took two days to do it (1650 Km) and got showered in stones by a passing truck. Four stones hit the windscreen and one has made a sizeable chip on the leading edge of the bonnet.
Aside from that I am very happy. I get 11% better economy than I do in the D3. The extra power of the SDV6 is quite noticeable. The ride is slightly harsher (probably due to the low profile tyres), but the seat is more comfortable than the D3. Went for the HSE spec this time and had a lot of fun playing with the Nav and stereo on the way home.
I didn't know that the engine had no dipstick until the salesman showed me how to read the oil level on the instrument display. Do I trust it?
So, the old faithful D3 is now officially on the market. It will be sad to see her go - she's taken us to almost every place in mainland Australia.
Cheers

Technically I didn't do anything!
It's all done!
Thanks to Frogs Island 4x4 for finishing the mods of my car.
Roll on next weekend as it'll be out in anger for the first time doing off-road rides for punters at the Silverstone Classic weekend, all in aid of charity.Nick

I recovered a plane that 'conked' out and did an emergency landing in one of our fields! Problem with the carb on a 50 hour old engine!
They offered me a 'trial flight', politely said not in that plane and accepted the £50!

Thats the second emergency landing in the last 20 years in the same field! Must be a good spot!

Mitchell Brothers Hitch
Fitted a Mitchell Brothers Hitch to the D4. Also fitted a Tekonsha P3 caravan brake controller and pulled in a 13 sq mm twin power lead from the engine bay to the luggage area at the rear and extended it to an Anderson plug on the rear bumper. It means I now have serious power available at the back of the vehicle.
Took three days at a leisurely pace to do all of the work. I now know how a lot of the plastic-ware is attached to the interior of the vehicle and I also know why I gave up installing two-way radios in vehicles almost 15 years ago. Still, the skin will grow back on my knuckles and all of the bits and pieces went back where they were originally. Best of all, there were no parts left over when I finished.
