Try this, when you start the engine drive forward before you select reverse - this solved my same problem

My rear sensors are now all working perfectly as you would expect after replacing all four rear sensors and the wiring loom! I saw the diagnostic check and all of the sensors were displaying a fault. I am not sure if the deep snow or salt on the road did this but one day they were all fine and the next I was getting a constant tone. I was not charged for the loom (under warranty) but the extended warranty did not cover the new sensors which ended up costing £350 to supply and fit. The original quote was £100 more but the dealer thought mine were painted - they're not. Even when I collected the car they forgot about this and I had to remind them to knock £100 off. A lot of owners seem to be getting problems with rear sensors.

We only have two dealers in Edinburgh. I got both to quote for the work and both came in at the same figure (well one was a lot higher until someone else on this site helped me nudge them in the right direction). I agree it seems a lot of money but I wasn't prepared to travel halfway across the country to save £100 and with both dealers in the same area pricewise I thought I had little choice.

Mine have just packed up in an identical manner.
24 hours left on the extended dealer warranty, and my dealer tells me it's covered, yippee.
Phew - close call !!

Lucky you. I was told the parking sensors are not covered under the extended warranty. My car is an 05 so maybe my extended warranty covers less? I often find the warranty doesn't cover you for the particular fault your car has. Anyway if you do get this job completed under warranty I would be interested to hear.

I'll let you know tomorrow CJS as it's in for assesment and to get a claim number from the warranty people - BUT my main dealer have assured me that it is def covered.
Mines an 06, so possibly they do "adjust" the policies year to year.
In truth I am not going to renew it - it's very expensive and in the last 12 months I have had just about everything that you read about on this forum fixed anyway ! Reckon the money I save will pay for most repairs I may need throughout a year - and still have some left over for beer!
My D3 has a hard-ish life - 40% off road so I'm hoping that everything that is going to drop off - has !!!

rear parking sensors turn on when they are meant to, i.e. in reverse with the handbrake off, but they seem very weak, only working from maybe 1 to 2 feet away from a wall. does anyone know if I am best replacing the sensors, the rear bumper wiring loom or doing something else? They appear quite clean from the outside, but could off course be internally dirty / salty. Is it correct that the rear bumper cover comes off quite easily to take a peak at them? - i.e. just the few screws visible across the bottom if you lie on the floor looking up at it?
Thanks as ever,
Max.

I am on my 4th set of rear sensors and 2nd set of wiring (all under warranty).
I travel to the alps a lot and as soon as we get snow or -10 degrees they fail.
Dealer told me (as late as last week) that they are experiencing many problems with faulty sensors - they had to use 2 sets the last time mine was in before they could get them to work ok.
We will see the next time it snows or gets cold if the problem returns.

I get the "front sensors inactive" message and neither my front or rear sensors work.
I was told by the garage that sold me the car that its not covered under their "extensive" warranty.
I put it into a local (very friendly) specialist for MOT last week and had them take a look at the same time. Turns out one of the sensors in the front has gone. Going to cost me £29 + VAT plus an hour's labour (@ £45) to put right. The thing has been driving me crackers so less than a hundred quid to sort it is a bargain.

My ones started this one today, Oddly enough, it was raining yesterday, after reading fair bit online, it turns out the sensors are prone to leak and the connections get wet, cause a short and the system fails,
my parking system is working and then not, so its got to be one of the sensors on its way out, more news when i get to know,

ref different sensors
i think, the bent ones go at the front and straight at the back , it please don't hold me to that , someone more experienced will be able to help a lot more than me
i've got one gone at the drivers side outer and can get my hand on the loom but not the sensor
was trying to get it off with taking the bumper off
when i tested them on the iid they all come up as 2.5m , it then showed the error b1b44-96 rear right outer sensor component failure - internal failure
wonder if it's always better to replace them as a set
