I changed a rear outer the other night and it was relative easy to swap out (about 10mins). However I had the bumper off at the weekend so all connectors were cleaned and eased. The n/s rear being really difficult to release first time around.
The sensor bezel has two clips that need to be eased back. At the same time push the sensor in through the bumper from the outside. The connector has a tab that need to be compressed.
Note the "keyway" on the sensor and align this with the bezel when reinserting.

pjm thks
it's the osr that the iid said was at fault
can get my hand on it to unplug the connector but not enough to get the sensor out
think as mentioned will remove the bumper
did wonder if i just plug the new sensor in if it will clear the fault and work whilst not sitting on the back bumper
then if it's ok , can then carry on removing the bumper and fitting the new sensor

Yes that's a good idea to plug the new sensor in and try and point it to free space if you can. See what happens.
You probably need to push the sensor inwards from the exterior while releasing the 3 clips.
I have a problem at the back with mine and the garage plugged it in when they did the LPG conversion and they said there was a problem with the ground on the beeper bit . Does anyone know which panel this is behind in the rear so I can investigate please .
They said all the sensors were fine and the loom . Thank youD3 V8 SE LPG

Left passenger side.
May as well get a replacement off eBay if it doesn't make any error tones at all. Not expensive. And they do fail
Thank you , have found one for £22:50 will do that one next weekend D3 V8 SE LPG

On a D4, does the front bumper have to be removed to access the outer pdc sensors or can they be reached from under the wheel arch cover?

On the D3 you can gain access.
However to be honest I could take one side of the bumper off in under 10mins so access was not a problem and it was far easier to do.
Happy to report parking sensors are still 100%

I had this problem recently after (stupidly!) changing a rear break light bulb in the rain. Went to move the vehicle afterwards and when reverse was selected, long continuous low beep with button on dash flashing which could only be stopped by pressing the dash button.
Following advice from these threads, I removed the rear light lens thinking it must have something to do with me replacing the break light bulb.
There are three connector blocks (two in photo and one below bumper level).
One (the black looking block on the right of the two in the photo) was secured by a screw to a plastic bit of trim sticking out from the inside of the bumper with all wiring exposed to the top. My guess was that rain water must have dripped into this one whilst I was replacing the bulb.
Rather than take the bumper off to get to the connector block, I cut the small plastic panel with a junior hacksaw.
I then used my wife's hairdryer on the connector block for about 10-15 mins medium temp and bingo!! the sensors returned to normal operation.
Cable tied the connector block back in place to secure it. Sensors have been working fine since.
Thanks to everyone who has posted on this subject. You all helped me save what undoubtedly would have otherwise been a big garage repair bill. Much appreciated.
