Another newbie

'evening all,

Just popped in to say hi, as found a link here when googling for assistance on getting my mobile to work with the LR3 PTI - still can't Sad

Picked up a TDV6 in S spec last weekend, but not had a mo' to take it anywhere,as my partner has co-opted it for the family car. Still, leaves me to get my old SII/III (a bitsa job) into daktari mode without her complaining about mussed hair and safety...

Would've loved all the kit on an HSE, but settled for met. paint, PTI and tow-bar (+bike rack) on an S. For anyone looking for a good dealer down this way, wouldn't hesitate to recommend Taunton for service, price and attitude.

Thanks for providing amusing and informative threads; I look forward to joining in and not lowering the standard (or the tone?)

Welcome, to the site. There are a great bunch of people here and it has to be the best site on earth for D3. Between the humour is a lot of serious info. Very Happy

Question
Now I'm confused - I only know an emmet as an ant. I can hardly see the kerb from the LR3, let alone any ants. Take pity on a noob and enlighten me.....

Let me explain....

DrLex.....
Emmets (Somerset) and grockles (Devon) do indeed mean ants, but are also used to describe tourists - or at least they were a few years ago Rolling Eyes
So.....
Do you get many tourists in Disco3's - probably with their 'tin tents' Shocked

Cheers,

I have to own up to taking my tin tent to Cornwall tomorrow. So I will be an Emmet, then a Grockle, all in the same day Very Happy

I will however be travelling overnight, so as to keep the disruption from the sight of an emmet or a grockle driving a D3 to a minimum.

Ah; the light has gone on.

In answer to your Q: no, not yet. Plenty of Disco "classics" around, but few LR3s to date. Most of the tin tents passing through are attached to saloons, some to jap 4x4s (esp. the pikeys). Expensive 4x4s (X5, cayenne, volvo) tend to be DFTers ("down from Town") staying at the holiday home.

As to Devon, I hear that the constabulary there are now logging all vehicle movements in and out on the M5. Perhaps estimating their possible toll receipts?

You won't see many LR3s, quite possibly some Discovery 3s though unless one of our counties has quietly migrated across the pond Wink

Just popped in to say goodbye.
It was bad enough reading about all the electrical problems, computer faults, road recovery, gearbox failure, suspension up’s and down’s and L.R’s c..p back-up.
I was on my way to test drive the D3 manual. Passed one on the M5 hard shoulder.
You’ve guessed it…got to the garage and that was the one I should have been driving, gearbox problems.
I need reliability. I get that with my lowly little Jeep.
Until FORD bite the bullet and admit problems, tis with a very heavy heart, I say Goodbye.
It has been great reading all your banter.

PIP,
Understand where you're coming from, still not got mine and I must admit to having occasional 'second thoughts', however, as a sample of total ownership, we're a small percentage (so far) and being predominantly British - you know how we like to whinge Rolling Eyes that said, there are lots of good things said about the Disco 3, not just on here either Very Happy and to be fair to LR / Ford, there's always a balance to be struck when designing & testing a completely new vehicle, between the needs of Engineering and marketing, a completely reliable vehicle is no good in terms of recouping development costs if it's based upon 10 year old technology.
Stay around, you never know, you may change your mind Very Happy and you know where you'll 'hear it first' when LR provides a fix for any of the bugs,

Stay safe Wink

Cheers,
