Do all lights work in the rear? Symptoms sound very much like one brake light wouldn’t work in the back and/or the brake light switch (BLS) would be faulty. Also, it could be useful to read the codes.

I think all the lights are OK, but I'll verify that just incase.
I thought it could not be the BLS since the faults are coming and going.

I had a BLS that created intermittent errors until it eventually got replaced. I figured it out because twice I hit the brakes very fast and got lots of errors. The first time I almost Censored myself, the second time I was ready as I was trying to pinpoint the fault.

Surprisingly, the brake lamps did not work properly.
With light off, pushing the break pedall, only left side turnd on - low light.
With main light on, no break, left light didnt work, with break - no respose - nothing changed, while the teligate light worked constantly, even when not pushing the break. Confused
I checked all 4 side lamps, visually and resistence inspection, they all looked perfectly normal, still I switched between the upper and lower ones, just incase - to my surprise the brake lamp system is now working perfectly.

Now I hope the faults do not repeat themselves...

Thanks!

Re: Many fault messages even battery, Brake Light Switch changed

I have this problem for months now..... but I had also an accident to explain why I didn't do something for months too (A drunk man was driving a car without brakes (it's common here in Liberia) and hit my when I was just walking) Also I had to leave the country to receive treatment... during these months the LR3 didn't receive treatment... Laughing

Sometimes, when I try to turn on the car it's impossible.
I have plenty lights on the board and the most important I have found, the four flashers are on, when they are on, it's impossible to turn on the engine.
Sometimes, they will be off by themselves after few minutes or sometimes I have to wait (but I don't let the key on II) many hours also it is possible to turn on the engine, even if I still have many lights on the board.

More of that, I have plenty default messages like HDC, Transmission, Engine and brake faults....
They are not always the same, but plenty are here.

Whn I'm able to turn on the engine, I have anyway many lights on and many fault messages. After a bump on the road (common here too) or simply like that, the four flashers are on and at this time, the RPM and Speedmeter are no more working...
The more crazy is, when I press the reset button on the dashboard the four flshers will be off, for few seconds or few minutes... but what is the link between the reset button and that ? Really no idea !!!!!

I have seen also that when I have these many messages and lights on the board, I can't put the Parking Brake, sometimes it try to wok but it will not keep it...
Sometimes but not often when I touch the Parking Brake button I will have an alarm (dong dong).
Same when the key is on I and no more on II.
But when I remove the key, I can always put my Parking Brake without any problems.....

I have checked the ground wires on the driver side, under the carpet, nothing rusted...
I have checked the wires behind the dashboards, everything ok.
I have checked all the plug behind the battery everything are like new plug, no rust at all.
I have changed the two brakes sensors for brake pads.
I have checked all the fuses (very painful....) they are all ok.
I have checked also the plug lights for the rear lights, no problem at all
I have checked the wires behind the screen of the GPS.
I have checked the wires to the Parking Brake button and to the transmission too.

I have even tried the Hidden Display with the code 753 but I really don't understand the MOST what it does and I have not found an answer on internet.
I have seen that we can put another code 134679 but it seems dangerous because we can mess up the MOST bus functions.... but still I don't know what it is... and no explanation on internet

Soon I will be able to write a book how to remove any part of the LR3...

I change the Brake Light Switch, I check also my Brakes bulbs, they are from OSRAM not a Chinese brand... they are not broken too and they are well aligned.
I also changed my battery.
After that I did a hard reset. It was nice for three hours and again the same things happen.

I can't rely on something, sometimes will work sometimes not, not always the same fault message, not always the same lights on...
And in Liberia I'm really alone, I have to everything by myself.

I really don't know what to do, please please please someone can help me ?

I have also just seen now on this new Hidden Display that my brand new battery has a voltage of 11.5Volts when the engine is off and 12.5 Volts when it's on... Is it alright or too low ?
If it's too low, please tell me the Voltage I need to have.
Please tell me too some battery brands how are good one please !!!!

I have visited many forums and they were helpful about the Brake Light Switch, Bulbs, Battery and Hard Reset, but now, they don't know what to say...
I have done everything in my eyes.....

I really really need help, please give an answer, I'm really stuck here and it's not practical and even dangerous at night !!!!

Thank you so so so much in advance, really !!!

With my best regards

Philippe Frossard

Hi, Just from what I've read and understand your battery voltage seems to be very low, I would try and a battery change and check the earth cables/points for a good earth.

As for battery's I know a lot of people seem to use these guy's and my last battery came from them. Unsure how it could be shipped to your country tho.

Strange canbus faults

Hi all, I'm new to this forum, had a discovery 3 for a while but not needed help until today Crying or Very sad .
I replaced rear shoes, hub nuckle and stabilizer bar. Now the car will not start! Wont even turn over.full Xmas lights on the dash. Ive checked reisitance at the diagnostic plug on the high canbus got 215 ohms, with my diagnostic tool I can communicate as far as epb, nothing after that. I've looked at the harness at the back connectors etc , I found an open circuit so I made a loom up connected it up and tried to start, nothing still dead in fact I got hazards flashing this time. I plugged in diagnostic, this time I couldn't communicate with the epb.so I removed the wire and thought Confused could I bypass the epb and wiring, I did this at the connectors in the wheel arch. Nope still nothing, but the diagnostic did let me communicate with the abs module. My question is can a module be bypassed on the can bus if it Can I have another problem, if it can't, where are the likely harness breaks on the rear .

Long one i know but thanks for reading and hopefully some advice.

Hi

Hope u don’t mind me adding but that battery voltage is way to low , needs charging then Vdc re checking whilst standing

Then as mentioned a hard reset and then see what’s happening

Did u also check out the large connector that sits on the passenger side rear wheel

Included a wiring diagram manual just in case u haven’t got one

https://media.disco3.co.uk/gallery/albums/...ing%29.pdf

May i also plse ask What pins did test ur canbus on via the OBD2 socket plse and did u disconnect the battery or leave it connected

Many Thks and hope that helps

Evening all,here are today's findings.
13.5v battery fitted. Also did hard reset. No change at all. All faults come up, temp gauge in red, hazards flash etc
With ignition on I tested tested canbus wires ,all 4 at the connector nsr wheel arch am getting 2v each wire.
Plugged hawkeye in cannot communicate with epb now, could yesterday and still not with end.
With ignition off I can apply epb ican hear the motor, but I can't release it?
With ignition on I can release epb, but not apply it , well i can but as soon as I let the switch go , i can here the motor wind it's self back to the off position.
Very strange.
Could my problem be the epb unit or the switch it's self? And how would I diagnose this please guys.

Oh I tested the ohms on the diagnostic plug with the battery disconnected.
Thanks for reading any advice would be great

United Kingdom

Just dealt with this error on my '05 D3 TDV6: 'HDC error' then 'Special Systems Not Available', then straight after was 'Suspension Lowered' with three warning lights. Faults read were Steering Angle Sensor, Reservoir slow to fill and suspension past maximum. Steering angle sensor recalibrated and problem sorted.
