SUPERCHARGED RAM AIR FBH
OK thanks to Beanie, Martin and posters above I may have solved the FBH problem.
This morning I set up a temporary Supercharging system for the FBH along the suggested blown air idea.
First I attached the Battery charger on trickle to ensure the voltage remained high throughout the process.
I then used my compressed air gun with an attachment that made a seal into the FBH air inlet after spraying in liberal amount of spray Brake Cleaner.
I then used the ALTOX APP on my phone to start the heater and after a few attempts got a steady flame and rising temperature.
With the compressed air running Supercharger style the FBH warmed up quickly and ran smoothly for 20 minutes with zero issues and only wisps of smoke. When the temp was at nearly 80c I disconnected the RAM AIR and it continued to run sweetly. Several times during the process I stopped the RAM AIR and sprayed in more BRAKE CLEANER the re-attached the compressed air.
I then repeated the process for another 25 minutes so I have had it running for nearly an hour at hot temperatures so hopefully its decoked enough to run by itself. I will test again when its back to Zero degrees.
Here is a short Video of the SETUP:
Anybody know the MAX temperature the FBH can run at I got mine into the 90c+ range...?

Quite a bit of carbon may have migrated to the exhaust, so worth disconnecting it and giving it a good blow through.

It may be possible that the Webasto timer module will over-ride/reset any errors/lockouts.
I don't have a timer module so I havn't had a play so don't know
If the FBH tries to start and is unsuccessfully, it will shut down - one Lockout Error is created.
Two more unsuccessful starts and the FBH will lockout.
Power failure while the CAN is active (i.e. the vehicle isn't asleep) also counts as one Lockout Error.
Because the FBH stores errors in NON Volatile Memory, removing the power to it WILL NOT erase these errors - regardless of vehicle asleep/awake, ignition on/off, standing on one leg, wearing red socks etc
A Lockout can only be reset by T4 (on a good day if you are lucky) or fault mate or the Webasto PC programme
Good afternoon!
This screen appears under what conditions-mode Webasto parking heater or heater?
The FBH on the D3 as is, is an auxiliary heater, so only works when the engine is running and the external temp is below 6deg. It was designed to work as a Parking heater and aux heater when the vehicle was first launched, but LR couldn't get the FBH and the heating controller to work together (German product & British vehicle not talking the same loudenSprache).
If the FBH is not working and the external temp drops below 6deg the engine does not produce enough heat to keep the temp up on the guage! It runs at full load (5kW) until the engine coolant temp reaches around 85deg. On the temp guage this is the middle (half way between cold and hot).
Then it drops back to Part load (2.5kW).
It then cycles full load, part load until either the engine is turned off or the external temp rises above 6deg.
When the engine is turned off the heater then shuts down, going first into 'burn out' then 'cooling'. This is what you can sometimes here - it can take up to 30seconds to complete.

Hi guys. My FBH is working today (3 degrees outside)... but I notice it is not switching off once the engine reaches operating temperature (was driving around for 45 mins)... Is this normal? I can sometimes hear the radiator fan coming on, and I can still feel hot exhaust gases coming out of the FBH exhaust.... Is this how it is meant to operate?... seems like a bit of a waste of heat if the FBH and radiator fan are running at the same time....

Normal behaviour and the big fan does more than cool the coolant.
