Hi gvw,
Do you have any references for the mod? My D4 is just coming up to three years old and is due to go in for its final warranty service. It would help if I could refer to a tech bulletin number to ensure I don't get fobbed off.

Sorry KenR - I just noticed your post.
The TSB that I had carried out was LTB00487v3 - 3.0 TDV6 Excessive Exhaust Smoke
I hope I'm not tempting fate but since the mod I have not noticed any smoke from the exhaust even when accelerating hard and my oil level has not dropped at all so very

Hi Russell - I assume the v3 suffix to the bulletin no. suggests LR made 3 attempts at this fix?
Are you referring to the same fix or v1/v2 as it has certainly made a difference to mine?

Having read the TSB it appears to be the sameas the work done to mine, however they did a huge anout of work on mine and one other persons on this forum so perhaps it is an updated version.
My dealer was faultless and worked hard to try to rectify the fault having to buy a number of special tools LR said they needed to do various tests. In the end the car was fixed with a new engine and even the LR tech who came out and spent a couple of days at the dealers could not get to the bottom of the issue. The engine was returned to LR and we never found out what the actual issue was.MY17 D5 1st Edition Namib Orange

When I enquired about the fix at the end of sept12 it was pretty much hot off the press and had to wait for parts to become available.
How does this fit in date wise with your mod?

Hi gvw
Thanks for the TSB details. Still have the problem but the next time it goes in will give them the full details - at least I have got is registered as a problem before the warranty ran out
Regards

Mine did it until the modification was carried out at the back end of last year. On the odd occasion that I had to "boot" it, the smoke trail left mad the Red Arrows look pathetic. The mod is some kind of drain on the secondary turbo I believe. For me it appears to have worked as I've had no smoking since.

We had a D4 in for the same problem and the air cleaner and twin intake was completely covered in oil. The owner occasionally tows a horsebox so D4 works hard. We cleaned the entire intake system and replaced air cleaner. Also cleaned the crank case vent and all was fine for a few weeks. The problem is back and I would like to block the EGR to see if this might help the problem.
Does anyone have a copy of this TSB LTB00487v3? I've got a Topix subscription, but it's only for Service and repair info, not TSBs etc. Someone on the Oz forum seemed to fit a kit consisting of modified oil drain pipe and blanking plate - is this available from the UK?

The modified oil drain pipe made about as much difference as, well, the not modified one. I wouldn't bother, quite frankly!
Sorry to spoil your hope.747_JK

Are they not marketed as being a superb towing vehicle with a max trailer weight of 3.5T? How does this equate to working hard?Currently 2009 Disco 3 SE, 2013 MY D4 HSE and 2016 D4 SE
