Just checked mine—100k Mileage, EGRs intact.
Very gunky!
The hole was partially blocked, I gave it a good clean and carefully used a drill bit to screw the crap back out the hole.
Started the engine just to check I didn't the sensor and immediately noticed the cranking was more "keen" and rumbled into life more confidently if that makes sense
Gave it a couple of small revs and 100% revved up faster off idle, it's definitely no placebo.
Going for a long drive tomorrow to see my parents so ill know then for sure, my MPG is pretty good anyway so not expecting much in terms of economy but maybe the motor will feel smoother and a bit more responsive!
Cheers for the tip

Wow, that was some time well spent!
Rather gunky, but easy to wipe off the exterior mushroom and then slowly pick at with a screwdriver, few blasts of MAF cleaner to finish it off. Might be placebo but I agree with Banesworld, easier to crank and noticeably more reactive to throttle.

134k with EGRs.
Boy oh boy was this worth doing! Has made a huge difference to the way the car drives.

Forgive my ignorance but what is the name of the assembly this connects to and are there guides for cleaning it? There was a lot of build-up that I could see on the inside...

I recently blanked the EGR valves on my 2004 D3 but didn't check the MAP sensor at the time. As part of a current fault finding mission I finally pulled the sensor and cleaned it, what a state...

Wow... that must be as bad as it gets.
Do you think you got it all clean, or worth buying a new sensor as it's that bad?
You should notice a big improvement in the way the car drives after cleaning all that muck off

That's what I thought, I couldn't imagine it getting much worse than that!
Mine is 20 years old with 218k miles, I only picked it up last year from a mate, and the EGR valves were presumably original and presumably this sensor was also original hence why everything was so choked up.
I'm sure I would have noticed a difference after cleaning, if I didn't also have a boost leak somewhere to find and fix first.

Long shot but the boost leak code couldn't be linked to the dirty MAP sensor or the MAP sensor cleaning could it?

I had the power loss and underboost code before pulling the MAP sensor and cleaning it, but I suppose the sensor could be broken and needs to be replaced.
