Same question for D3 - I still haven't got around to doing mine either!
Some photos of which wires to splice into would be nice... 2001 D2 GS (I must be mad!)

blackview
Hi
Do not use any of the wires behind the interior light there is only one wire that provides a 12v feed in here but it is for the rain sensor you will have to run a fused permanent wire from the fuse box upto the light unit with an installed switch, use a 5amp fuse
cheers

I checked several cables for the same purpose last weekend. I found the lower contact of fuse 28 (unused) behind the lower glove box provides permanent 12V feed. The place stated by Wiggs in this thread is blocked by a relay or so.

My post in your link was for a permenant live on a D3 G4 Gone ...but not forgotten
The place stated by Wiggs in this thread is blocked by a relay or so.
Any idea what the relay does? There are two blanks in the D3 with a symbol of an open top tailgate beside them but no idea what function we might get by fitting the relay. What stops working when you take out the relay?A vaccine does not stop you catching a virus, or passing it on, or getting ill from it, really ill. It does reduce the likelyhood of you dying when really, really ill. Stay Alive - KEEP AWAY FROM PEOPLE.

First of all sorry for the delay, but the small thing "permanent live for blackvue" has turned into a bigger project:

Permanent powering the BV is good, but what happens at night in my private garage ? Nearly nothing - watching spiders on the wall is not worth draining the battery. So i decided to make the BV switchable. Okay, where to place the switch ? The ashtray is of no use for me as we are all non-smokers ... yep, place the switch there. But stop, there's plenty of space left in the ashtray ... maybe ... what about a small mediaplayer to run a RSE retrofit ... and the center console has been disassembled already ...
YES ! And here's the preview:

I don't want to mix up different things here and will start a new thread with the RSE retrofit later. To continue with the blackvue:
I placed the BV directly below the mirror so the cable can disappear directly within the mirror base. To disassemble the base just pull apart both sides gently. Fixing points are marked with red circles:

Drill a small hole into the base platic for the BV power cable:

Run the BV cable along the other loom in the base and fix it using a cable tie. Its always a good idea to wrap cables with foam to avoid any rattling sounds.

Reassemble the base:

Open the roof control panel by pulling down the front side gently:

Use a glass fibre wire or similar as an aid to pull the cable through the headliner:

Run the BV cable along the loom in the control box through the headliner and down the A pillar:

Now make the loom for the power source: I used an fuse, drilled a small hole from behind (thus destroying the thin wire within the fuse) and soldered a red cable (length depending on switch position, here about 1m) on one pin. Mark this pin.

Place a fuse holder about 30 cm behind the "cabled fuse". Solder a ring at one end of black cable (length same as red one):

Mount the fuse holder near the main fuse box using some hot glue. Fix the ring on the black cable using the screw near the outer glove box hinge (this screw fixes the plastic part on a metal frame; works as ground). Now wrap all cables (the BV cable, red and black wire) with foam and make the electrical connections as follows:
Red cable from fuse -> SwitchIn -> SwitchOut -> Red wire in BV cable and
Black wire from BV -> Black wire to glove box screw (ground)
I drilled 4 small holes to fix the loom behind the plastics below the glove box using cable ties:

At last place a fuse (1 A) in the fuse holder and plug the "cabled fuse" into place 28 (marked pin to the lower side !)

That's it. Sit back and have a beer. By the way: This power source is still powered while starting the engine, so the blackvue doesn't restart while powering up. I've been running my blackvue this way for one week faultlessly.
Have fun !

Brilliant Voug.
One query: if I'm understanding you correctly, you've made the BV switchable (i.e. the power supply is permanent but there's a switch somewhere in circuit). This being the case, where is the switch?
thanks Voug - great pics and write up - just need to find a couple of hours to do the job now !!
