thanks for this thread, a pity that I did not come across it earlier;

I took my Disco to the dealer for the same symptoms. Their verdict : a new steering house was needed, as the item was not immediately available it took some 2 weeks to replace it and 1800 € out of my wallet.

3 days after I got the car back the same symptoms were back, fed up I started to look on the forum and found this thread.

Applied a liberal qty of WD40 and in half an hour the issue was sorted.

Now I would like to make fuzz about this but as I fixed the issue I will not be able to demonstrate their "incompetency"

The only silver lining is that the car drives normally again

Now I know this my be my problem, but there was a thread about servatronic steering valve being faulty in the steering gear assembly. It use to be that one had to replace whole steering gear, but now , somebody on this forum stated , recently , that VALVE is available now as a separate part, is this true? if it is what is part number of this steering valve, i asked about it today t my dealer, but they looked at me as I would have three heads, you know...

Hi,

I've just started to experience this problem, not all the time though, I went through a big puddle the other day and had the problem for 10 minutes, today I had the problem all the way to site, but on my return journey it was fine for about 40 minutes and then went stiff again.

I'm going to try the WD40 / oiling tip as suggested, has anyone got any photos of the universal joint and it's location, is it above the splash guard just under the steering rack ?

The links posted by maplecottage no longer work and my haynes manual is very vague.

Best Regards

Simon.
