OK, please don't kill me for asking this, but in the intererests of a balanced opinion...

For normal road use (If I was planning on frequent offroading I'd go for the 4 tonner version no question) why not buy 2 of these for a total of £140 :

and use them one per exhaust pipe simultaneously...?

( And yes, I mean side by side not one on top of the other Wink )

Exactly how much lift is required to get the wheels off the ground?

This afternoon I destroyed my LR jack, it worked OK for changing 4 wheels (for about 6 wheel changes) until today it would not go down to packing away position. Looks like not up to abuse it gets from me so will be getting an air jack to do the job, especiallly having seen Chis200100's jack at work in the Peaks.

Sorry dbregman, if you mention that item you go all 'invisible', see my earlier post Shocked . Much better price from Amazon than direct from their own website though! Very Happy
I was wondering whether two of these side by side would do the job safely but wasn't sure about the height needed to lift the wheels clear once in Offroad height.

I am waiting a little bit to see how that thread develops.
As I understand it so far, Gareth or Andrew, are going for the Takla model which is rated 2.5T. 10FC and some other are swearing by this one and their arguments are valid.
But then, I have also been told that I should need the 4T version because of it easier operation (No need to plug the second exhaust and better to have a 4T version working at 66% of its capacity than a 2,5T working at 100%. Even though I understand that we are not lifting the complete car, I am comparing the weight of the car empty 2.7T to the rating of the air jack...)

Thus I am still undecided or should I say unconvinced enough not to know what I'd choose...

IanD, As for the price being lowered if two were send to France, I don't know... Would have to ask... Wink

The Draper airjack has been mentioned before in previous threads, and isn't highly thought of. As Matt said someone will be along with more knowledgable advice soon......

As I understand it both jacks have to have the second exhaust plug. Both jacks proved themselves in Morocco, Slimer using the 4t and Andrew and TFC using the Takala. The latter has thicker top and bottom material and is a fair bit cheaper. You can also blow it up with a compressor. You can do this with the 4t, but it is an extra to have this feature. As far as ease of use I'm not sure if one is better than the other or stored more easily.

The big problem is getting the Takala. They have one importer and they have some coming over on a boat.

Now, I am confused...

There are 3 air jacks no ?

My wishes pushes me to the first one, but I understand that the second one is good and that the third one is "different"... Wink

The olley one does need a exhaust plug to work, I have this one.

The draper on doesn't have the hight to lift the D3 off the ground enough to change the wheels.

The only two that have the hight are the olley one and the takla one

Thanks Chris200100, I wondered if 55cm was a little low but until I actually get my hands on my own permagrin inducer I have to rely on you great helpers to make my decisions and didn't know the minimum lift required to free the wheels. Many thanks!

Update on exhaust bungs

Right, after a lot of 'effin and jeffin' I got two non- standard test plugs sent across the pond..... shipping was more than the cost of the plugs Thud
One is too small, the other works - just Rolling Eyes
Spoke to one of the pipefitters at work - who got me a couple of standard ones to try, the 50mm one looks just right but I imagined a bit of work with an angle grinder to make it fit... WRONG! Very Happy straight in, perfect fit, the only downside is the thumbscrew is plastic and I need to make an extending sleeve so it's easier to install. The upside is that they have 1/2"BSP thread so standard hose tails can be used - no more black hands (Chris / Slimer Wink ) and they should be less than £5 each Shocked
