Many thanks guys.
CG-The make of the bolt which failed is a BUFO 10.9 grade high tensile steel.
Shiny silver, As you say reduced shank bolts reduce the stress and possibility of critical failure. The bolt supplied by LR is not reduced shank (unlike the original)
Many possibilities here that I will be taking up with LR so will limit what I say.
Here's a photo of the fracture right at the start of the thread

Again, many thanks for all your help, it is reassuring at what is quite a worrying time.

you can get support from your car or house insurance legal teams
Unfortunately my experience of trying this route, even with legal protection cover, is that they will not help you unless their nominated solicitors think you have a reasonable chance of success. They refused to help me and I eventually won but it's in the T&Cs... -------------------------------------------------------------------

Really sorry to haer whats happened Matty. its very hard to believe it could be torqued up so hard that it caused this failure.... even diy'ers would recognise if it was much tighter than 30Nm
To Disco_Mikey....assuming you changed this bolt and if this happened to me after you do my timing belt, who would carry the cost???

The two bolts(studs) are different, the old bolt has a tapper(less diameter) just below the head, this will allow an element of flexing along the length of the stud between the taper and the threads on the casting, it will also allow slight tollerance for the holes to line up, the new(sheared) stud has a taper(less diameter) where the threads ends on the stud, this puts stress on the weakest part of the stud especially if the two components are slightly out of line(tolerance).
Cylinder head bolts are a perfect example, look at a cylinder head bolt and they are undercut a few millimetres from the top exactly like the old stud is, the new stud is not, it appears to be undercut were the threads start, IMHO it is the wrong stud for the application, the diameter of the stud shank is oversize,Check it with a micrometer!
I am not familiar with the bracket and how it is located, but if two holes are being tightened up with a machine fit bolt and the holes are being held out of line by other means the bolt will break with the shearing action, this is why the bolts(studs) are undercut to give clearance.
Difficulty you may have is proving that was the stud you were supplied with, stealers can be very good at riggling. It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

There have been several posts while I have been typing my last post, must learn how to type faster.
Looking at the photos they are a perfect example of bolt sheared by a sideways/gillertine action, not a turning action or a stretching action. It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

matt have you purchased a random sample of kits to see how they come packaged and to test the screws against broken ones to further strengthen your case

Dear all,
After having independent survey done today I put all the car back together with the old belt, bolt and tensioner (after realigning everything) on turning the crank / cams there was no noise, and good compression, so a quick flick of the key and she fired up first time drove it gingerly around the car park and all seems good, firing on all cylinders, no tapping etc. Dare not take it any further due to knarled belt and tensioner.
So back to the bolt saga, I can only think that i have mistakenly reused the old tensioner bolt (pre 2007 tensioner bolts did not have a reduced shank) and for whatever reason it sheared.
So its booked in to Landrover tomorrow for cambelt to be changed again, this time all covered by warranty and no more sleepless nights.
Thanks again for all the support - now to florist to by SWMBO a big bunch of flowers

d'yer think its worth the expense of getting the yellow taxi to take it in (even if not a member would get a local agent to recover it in at considerably cheaper than going direct)
