Rich, you are right, it was so annoying on Sunday that I will ask my dealer tomorrow. It is a good idea in the UK however, because leave a key in the lock for 2 seconds and some thieving moron will steal the car. At least it is constant reminder it is there and that it must be removed.

Not sure yet, but you may be correct. My car goes in on the 16th for a few small things, so will find out for sure then.

As New Zealand is not a particularly good ally of the US.... because of our nuclear policy.... (keep nukes out)... maybe bell ringing keys are their retribution... and NZ has been included in the countries that the bell cannot be disabled.... earplugs???? Near enough 40 degrees South!!!

rich wrote:I am sure this must have been discussed... but.... My instruction book says that the key in ignition warning (when drivers door is open), can be switched off by my dealer. He looked a bit surprised... Can someone help us both out....
Rich, been to the dealer today and been through test book and basically they cannot switch off the key bong. It is connected they think (cannot confirm) to the alarm. It is to reduce theft and stop people leaving keys in at petrol stations for instance and avoid drive offs as the car does not need thekey to open the fuel filler.
Damage could be caused to many things, so the answer is a big NO.

Dont know if you had any luck getting this stupid f**king chime turned off. I hate it wcant for the life of me understand why any manufacturer would subjects its clients to such a infuriating chime.
Has anyone had any luck getting it turned off ?
Cheers

yes, I either removed the key, shut the door or left it in pos 2
seemed to work fine
seriously, you'll just have to live with it unless BBS SPY with all his excellence can fix it.

Being originally from Liverpool my mind works slightly different and sometimes out of the box.
Have you thought about bypassing using the key and just hot wiring the car, you will never need the key and it will never chime because you left it in
