Can't think where else he can be draining from. Can't be the front diff as that is not fill to spill and takes 600ml (IIRC) without reaching the filling port, so it must be the transfer case. Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948

Now for that familiar feeling: Relief that it's the same and I haven't broken it, combined with shame of demonstrating retardedness in front of the rest of the forum...
Cheers guys

hope it's ok to add to an old topic.
I changed the transfer box oil on the weekend and it took more than 1.5L - I stopped at about 1.7 and it wasn't spilling out. It was done on level ground. Should I be concerned?
cheers

i also filled with more than 1.5L transfer box oil in it, about 1.8L.
should i undo fill plug and check fluid level again?
cheersï¼
update: i just realize the vehicle was not on horizontal when changed transfer box oil, RH side much lower. so today i undone fill plug and almost 400ml oil overflowed from fill hole.

Changed the oil in mine today. Forgot to put on the copper washer on the drain plug . Can I drive it before draining and filling again?

If you get a pal with a quick thumb on the hole you should only lose a little amount, and just re top-up. Make sure the oil is cold though!!D4 XS, gone, much loved, never forgotten

Good plan . I have half litre left over. I catch what comes out in a clean/dry bucket I guess I can squirt that back in too.
