Nighthawk you can stop and park without auto engage of the EPB if you hold down the handbrake switch as you remove the key .
I always use my EPB but the option is there if you don't want to .

Thumbs Up

It seizes up if you don't use it and wears if you use it. But cars need maintenance. If you don't off road strip clean , inspect and adjust epb at least once a year. If things wear and you don't adjust up the shoes the epb control unit pulls in too much cable and jams up. The manual handbrake on my land cruiser is such an effort although not as much effort as maintaining the land rover one.

On the flat I just leave mine in park but if on a hill always use the brake just to keep the strain off the gearbox if anything.

If the worst happened and a idiot crashed into your car - how much damage might it do the gearbox because the park brake was not applied?

Sorry, should have made that clearer, when parked outside my house on the flat it's just in Park, same as in the garage.

If it's on a hill or in town, park brake is applied.
