Anyone else seeing the common denominator here ?
Its not the height of the fall but the sudden stop at the bottom that hurts!!

Solicitors!
Got a bill from them timed just before their offices shut - why aren’t I surprised.
£36k! At least Dick Turpin had the decency to wear a mask!
All I can say is this will be interesting. However I don’t suppose I’ll get anywhere with complaining.
The bits I’ve highlighted in yellow, bottom bit, are their interim fees plus VAT. The brown bits are what I consider unnecessary.

Those solicitors have missed the usual final line "Bill preparation", which is normally charge at 10% (or more) of the bill or part of bill, in question And of course in a multi part bill there is the final line which adds another 10% of the total bill (sum of all the above).....Rob Smith

I can laugh about it.
No point in getting cross, just get even!
Wouldn’t mind, but I employed a different Solicitor for a slightly different matter, an additional house purchase a couple of months ago and I think their bill was only £1.4k, albeit I had a 6% tax bill on top. Still with that included it was just £10k. I was moaning about that, well the tax bit of it.
This larger bill only includes a tax element of a few hundred and that was for interest on money held on in the Solicitors client account, so I can’t blame that for the increase.
Beans on toast for a week now!

Not me, I'm not the 'Typhoid Mary' . I even did a test just to check as we had some at home! Serious question though; the test kits I have are now a couple of years old and if the genes have all mutated slightly over time (as I've read) are old test kits any use now?

The test kits I had from the pandemic period were still working effectively when I had Covid recently. An ex-Disco3 / FFRR owner ......

yes, but did they test you (and me) for something no longer 'valid' as part of its specification was my point really.
If the old tests were looking for 'variant X' and we are now on 'variant X +22 changes' will the old test pick that up and therefore give a false reading, be it positive or negative?
Have they not expired? Whether that makes them unreliable or is just a means to get someone to buy replacements, I do not know.
I have found that packets even within date, but only just, don't have enough fluid in the little capsules to do a test. Needed 3 for one test on Tuesday using kit that expires today.
And my son, using newer kit, never showed +ve for the whole week he had all the symptoms..

Anyway, having spent an hour in the night Googling an issue I seem to have going on, I can now tell you:
1. There is a higher than expected incidence of Shingles in immunocompromised patients as they recover from covid.
2. The queue on the phone to get a GP appointment is very long.
I'm expecting Leprosy next at this rate..

You'd have to be hugely unlucky to get Leprosy. You need prolonged contact with someone that has the disease and also be one of the 5% of people around the world thought to not be naturally immune anyway.
And it's treatable if you are so unlucky as to catch it.

Perhaps once you do get an answer on the phone you'd best ask for sleeping pills if thats the best you can come up with when googling
So, SWMBO has gone to her niece's wedding and I have a chance to tackle some jobs without having to spend ages each day putting away all the tools that I know full well I'll be using first thing the following morning.
except ...
one of the bathroom windows has inexplicably cracked, so I'll end up losing a day to getting that sorted.
then ... just prepping the kitchen so i can't damage anything whilst fitting the new extractor fan and I notice the factory-fit edging is coming away on the brand-new worktop, just by the sink. AND the worktop is swollen just adjacent to it.
This means that I need my kitchen fitting mate back - and he's on his hols until Thursday ! and that the 2 metre "spare" section of worktop will now have to get used, so my custom-made desk isn't going to happen.
And, of course, I'll have to explain to SWMBO why these things happened whilst she was away.
